The Shrek version just hits a lil’ harder, doesn’t it? This was one of those occasions where I severely overestimated my abilities and forgot that there’s a whole chorus in this song. Who woulda thunk. No biggie, right? Let’s just whip out a full choir and main vocals in a week. Nice. Awesome. Got it.
I did not got it.
After a good and healthy “I’m overwhelmed” sims session, I asked Palm to worry about the choir parts for me. It’s really wonderful having friends who you can pawn work (and stress) off to. The older I get, the more I appreciate it. It is in the moments like these where I infact realize that I am but a mere mortal who can only do so much in the span of 7 days. I’ve been pretty good about managing my workload and pacing myself for the majority of 2020 but every once in a while, this human flesh suit gets stressed and I am reminded that I cannot do everything by myself as much as I may try. I used to see myself as a lazy person but now I’m painfully aware that I’m a chronic overworker. Anywho, this is Anna’s friendly reminder to be kind to yourself and take a break when you need to! Pawn some work off to friends!

What's crazy is that Bonnie Tyler was sick when she recorded this originally. Which is why it she sounds so strained and determined to finish and imho adds to the song. Anna going all out definitely matches the vibe.

Shrek is just incredible. They just made a completely off-pattern villain for this role ... A beautiful and colorful fairy that everyone thinks is good, but is actually a xenophobic psycho lady that can murder people just because of no-reason hate at ogres, and her egocentric wish for the throne...

Can we talk about how perfect this song choice is withing Shrek 2? It works for multiple characters at once. The king is waiting for the hero in real Shrek, Fairy godmother is waiting for the hero inside her son, Fiona is waiting for her hero within real Shrek who will come and resque her.

As a person who knew of this cover since it’s release I would like to tell you a story: One day I was watching a very rare and exciting new installment of a series my friend got me into. Well as the white haired hero was taken by the long dead jellyfish bride, and as he was pulled with strings against his charge, a pink haired princess who can heals everyone except herself, a familiar tune starts to come on. My lips start to sound out the the first words without me even thinking of what I was saying, because I’ve done it many times before. I realized what was happening and screamed and belted out, singing along as I was so happy and excited as we watch the princess fight and escape with her hero in tow. I love Gwain Saga 008 just for this. Thank you Geo and Anna.
