I really hope that Forza devs keep adding these weird and quirky cars to Forza Horizon 5 because they are one of the best cars ever. And this Thing is sick. Unfortunately you can't remove the roof in FH5 but that's fine because I love this car and it has some cool customization. I just hope that the next update brings some cool cars and not some electric appliances.

In a nutshell, The Thing is a Kübelwagen for civilians to buy. Also, the Kübelwagen is associated with the Wehrmacht in WWII as it served in the German Army during the war.

The Type 82 "Kübelwagen" was made from 1940-1945 and was mostly built for the German Army (some were sent to Great Britain's army in 1945). The Type 181 "Kurierwagen" (aka Thing) started production in 1968 and was a modified Kübelwagen made for both Military and Civilian use. There was also the Auto-Union DKW Munga from 1956-1968 that did the same roles as the VW Type 181, but that would be more of an Audi than a VW.

back in highschool worked on one of these things we were allowed inside of it and all that they had put a custom horn into it that had preset horn sounds or an aux plug in and could play sounds from your phone or mp3 or whatever through the horn system that was put in

When my family lived in Jakarta, Indonesia in the '70s, my dad bought a new RHD baby-blue Type 182 (the RHD were not called 181, those were all LHD). It was actually built in Jakarta, and it had a black top. We drove it all over the island of Java, even to the cauldron of a volcano! Probably spent at least 50% of the time with the top down. My brother and I were crushed when we moved back to the states and didn't take it with us...😭
