Im Jewish, i don't consider my 'people' more intelligent . Im not sue that that's true. Im not a rich super achiver but.... I can say, there's a big emphasis on education and family in Jewish culture.
  • Generationally Jewish folk have had to stand up for themselves consistently, meaning learning or having to be more independent, inspiring hard work and creative thinking, not by choice but by survival instincts, i know this through my own experience as a Shoah survivor descendant and other reasons.
  • I am not Jewish but I have some indirect contact via my wife who moved from Japan to Cincinnati as a child. As an asian she took education seriously. There were very few asians there so she ended up in a class with mostly Jewish kids. Many people confuse IQ with intelligence. It is a measure of how well you will do in school, not intelligence. It is also heavily influenced by environment. In the case of asians and jewish people the expectations are that their children will do well in school They study harder. They learn more. They score higher on IQ tests. If we want the best for our kids we should model them instead of making excuses for our kids doing worse in school.

Sadly the Holocaust removed a large percentage of those that could have contributed enormously to the health & well being of the human race.

Work together. Thats the real reason. Do the right thing in life and help each other out.

In my point of prespective 1. Education Jewish people make alot of effort to get good education. Education and knowledge is the key to be succsesfull in life, and when you have it why not to aim high, position and power and so on. 2. Jewish people get married with Jewish people. it is a genetic thing, Preservation of features and It passes to the next generation. 3. The history of Jewish people. It effect on their mind consciousness or unconsciousness to survive.

My grandfather was German and Swedish...his military tested IQ was 144. He didn't have much money. Very intelligent but never considered himself more intelligent than others...you just knew it. He was a mechanic for military vehicles and taught auto mechanics in the military...invented a new braking system for Bradley tanks...instead of buying a starter for a car...he would take it apart and rebuild it for like 1 dollar 😂

An emphasis on education like many Asian cultures and high expectations helps. And studying the Torah and it's commentaries.

Motivation and defication are major factors in success. Perseverance.
  • As for why Ashkenazi Jews have a higher IQ: 1. That culture used to be based on studying the holy books. Your success in life (including selection of mates) was dependent on being recognized as a scholar. Thousands of years of selecting for the best scolars (even if it's just holy books) will produce geniuses and then all you need to do is swap the holy books for real science 2. Jews in Europe were forbidden to own land and therefore they were forced to undertake service jobs: Doctor, dentist, lawyer, accountant, engineer... 3. Multiple near-extinction events killed a lot of the dull, complacent ones!

Excellent point about Jewish success being related to IQ. I would also say the fact that historically the majority of Jews have attempted to live ethically and according to their faith, is also a reason for their competency. Jewish people have a reputation for honesty and upright dealing which in my own limited experience from UK is true.My grandfather sold jellies in the period after the World War 2 and the Jewish community in Glasgow was very kind to him.
  • I just like jews because they are intellectual people. They are very smart and resourceful. My poetry writing teacher was Jewish. I saw his library and I was floored. He had two rooms full of books. I love anyone who reads and who devotes themselves to thinking. Jews love to think.

What IS the Jewish question? Why should there even be one?Why shouldn’t there be a Chinese question, or a Maori question, or an Afghan or Inuit question instead? What about an Afro-Caribbean or a Basque question? I could go on, but I won't. You get the point. Please give us Jews a rest. Most of us are perfectly ordinary, everyday people, and would prefer not to be the eternal objects of all this lunatic fixation. The vast majority are not doctors or bankers or scientists or even wild-eyed, bespectacled Zionist revolutionaries. In fact, sadly, we’re just like everybody else. Why we should be required to be otherwise is beyond me.

I had a Jewish roommate in graduate school. He was working on a Masters in order to go into a PhD degree. His brother was a lawyer and his sister was a doctor. He told me his parents said: "They would not pay for my schooling unless I earned a PhD in the subject and all I want to do is work in industry." His parents also constantly hounded him about his grades, which were not great.

@2:00 it's a pretty good thing for the rest of us IF they are working in ALL OF OUR best interests, and not just their own.

Why was this recording cut short? Peterson wasn't finished his explanation.

I would say that the Jewish person who asked the question about Jews being over represented in positions of power and authority understood perfectly well why Jews are so successful in a range of areas in life. I would be interested to know what was said before he appeared to Jordan "to have an axe to grind". I wonder what Jordan had already said or omitted to say. If he is a Jew, he would know how his fellow Jews live, raise their children, eat, spend their time, about their faith, their history, the way they discuss, value debate, their clever humour, how much and how they study, and the types of rules they tend to live by. He would know how men help raise boys, and how girls are raised including the ways of developing the talents the child is born with. He would be very well aware of the important milestone that boys and girls (at the age of about 13) reach and all the meaning and responsibility involved with that transition into adulthood. He would also know how strong Jewish women are and how strongly and deeply elders are honoured and respected. He would be well aware of how creative and musical Jews would tend to be. He would be aware of how Jews have been forced to adapt to all the past eras of persecution, and alienation that Jews have been subjected to for so very many hundreds of years. He would know that through being unable to participate in various occupations in the past, Jews have adapted and become great at surviving financially in spite of all of that. He would also be more than capable of seeing the difference between Jewish lifestyles and those of many other nonJewish people he comes into contact with. It seems to me, that in the area of religion alone, Jews often have a clearer picture of biblical history than very many Christians. Other things worth noting relate to the entire history and belief that God had directed them thousands of years ago. These views and the Jews' incredible ability to survive when many other groups have disappeared, cannot be underestimated. Jews clearly tend to live very purposeful lives. That is a far cry from the many thousands of young men who listen to , write to and are inspired by Jordan Peterson to change their lives, "clean up their rooms", put their shoulders back and take responsibility. The Hebrew Bible is a lot deeper because Hebrew is the language it was written in at an earlier time. I don't think the Jew asked the question because he needed an answer. Perhaps, as a Jew, he wanted a bit more discussion and debate? Well, the narrowminded, angry views of people didn't make that possible. As Jordan Peterson points out, approaching the question on the basis of race has its limitations. I am surprised that "nurture" wasn't then discussed by Jordan. In fact, as Jordan has given many lectures on the bible and has looked fairly deeply ( although probably not as deeply as Jews have) at the "old testament". One thing I learned from Jordan is that these old stories are "truer than true". I have myself lived through things that remind me of Cain and Abel, and Joseph and his jealous brothers. So that is just one good example for me. I do believe though, that Jews have a far deeper understanding of this ancient wisdom than Jordan will have. I have certainly gained the impression that strong views, including antisemetism is live and well. "Being killed" is very strong language. I am not religious or Jewish, but I know enough about the incredible gifts of the Jews, as well as the teachings of Jeshua/ Jesus himself and other Jews after him. I was shocked, truly shocked recently to hear a percentage of people who believed that Jews caused the Holocaust. ??!!! I don't really know a lot about Jewish life, but if people still think that way about Jews, well that is a very disturbing indictment about the level of intelligence, knowledge and humanity in the population even after all our world has been through. It will be interesting to see the next thousand comments here. I hope people here will take an interest in this incredible, purposeful, strong, intelligent, talented, spiritual group of true survivors. I was listening to a very old recording of Bob Dylan recently. He was very young and was being very disrespectfully hounded by the press. He replied to one of them, "I wouldn't do that to you". Such a beautiful, pure response from a very young musician with such incredible talent. Such respect and honesty shown to an older person who frankly didn't deserve it.
  • First of all, you must all understand that there are only 15 millions Jews in the world and millions are not overly successfull. Many are middle class and many too are poor. You might not see that so much in The US, but just go to Israel and I can promise that you'll see many poor Jews. Our successes, collectively that is, are rooted in one main thing, and that's our written tradition. Having texts to engage in and debate and argue about for 6000 has done something to us developmentallly and culturallly, over epochs and various places globally. Not many cutures as ancient as mine can claim the same.

Instead of being grateful for their continued contributions to the world the unthinking is once again envious.
