This site brings back wonderful memories for someone who was kid in a city with three major league teams. My favorite was the Brooklyn Dodgers. They represented the little guy who never quite made it until the 1955 series and they were the team that integrated baseball, which also sadly eventually led to the demise of the Negro Leagues. The Yankees were General Motors, though the individual players, like Mantle and Ford, and Skowron, and Richardson, and so many others.. But.for me the best clutch player was Berra who had phenomenal instincts, both as a player and as a manager. So it didn't matter that when they asked him if he wanted his pizza cut into four pieces or eight, he replied, "four because I couldn't eat eight."

Once Mick stepped in the box, he never stepped out.

The Yankees clobbered the Braves In this game, but the Braves won the series, thanks to Burdette who won 3 games, and the very great but aging Spahn who lost the first game 3-1 and but won the 4th- 3-1. The following year the Yankees defeated the Braves in a rematch when they were able to master Burdette.

Juan Pizzaro pitching for 1 inning in the 2nd. Just shows the depth of these pitching staffs in those days. Gene Conley also played NBA. Also notice how quiet the stadium is. Back in those days I went to games because it was so quiet. It was actually a very meditative experience.

Amazing and wonderful not to hear the endless banal gibberish of Kay and Cone. Imagine just letting the game play out and being silent...well, hear it was....

Mickey was something else! So graceful with every move! But RED Barber was boring!

That's when baseball was played in black and white.
