That's what I love about Eli in this show, they portray him to be this shy and weak individual so we develop an intense understanding of his later relentless nature. He's an antagonist that you can understand and relate to.

All that matters is that you become BADASS

Hawk was bullied ruthlessly, everywhere he went before he got the Mohawk and got confidence, was everybody just making fun of his lip which was cruel. He probably tried to make friends and chat up girls before, and they just made fun of his lip. And Johnny making fun of him for that was the last straw for him, so he changed his look and gradually became more confident. Unfortunately, due to how Hawk was treated in his past, he now believes that if he isn't aggressive, no one will take him seriously. Miguel was only bullied by Kyler, and didn't have anything to really make fun of, so it wasn't as bad for him as it was for Hawk.

Hawk: My doctor said I could be in the spectrum. Johnny: I don't know what any of that means but you better get out of it. The best sensei around.

All that Hawk has to do left is yell "Get him a body bag, yeahhh!!!!"
