About Us:
We are an American family of 3 who moved to France for an extended stay adventure in 2022.
We wanted to experience Europe as more than rushed tourists on a 10-day vacation. To dive into the culture, learn a new language, experience daily life, and truly know what it was like to work and live somewhere other than the US.

In France, we set up a business, enrolled in a middle school, found housing, and even got our cat a European passport!

While in the US preparing to leave, the information we found about staying in France for longer than a short vacation was directed at college students, young & single digital nomads, or retirees. Where was the useful information for families like us?

With a year under our belts in France, we created Baguette Bound to pass on what we have learned. We hope to make it easier and inspire other families who are interested in experiencing a long stay in France with their families. Stay tuned for more information on French culture, local travel ideas, and the logistics of moving across the world.

My husband and I arrived in France in 2017 on a 2 year work contrat for him-I tagged along-and we never went back. We now own our own business and will will going for citizenship soon. We love this area of France-we are about 30 km away from you.
  • Some elements to understand the cuisines of this era. There is no counter or work surface because everything was done on the table, preparing the poultry, sorting the vegetables, peeling the potatoes. It was often a family activity, the wife, the children, the husband, everyone had their task to carry out. As some of these tasks took a long time to complete, it was better to be seated. Another more social reason was that, sometimes, when we received close friends or family, it was an opportunity to share a discussion while preparing the meal, with a small glass of wine or an aperitif. I can no longer count the number of endless discussions I had with my grandmother while shelling peas.

My husband and I discovered your channel about a month ago, and we absolutely love your content. We are US Americans who retired to Portugal in 2019, and our only regret is not doing it sooner. Our dream home is our Peugeot Boxer van that we refitted and now live in full time. We love France and are actually driving through again next month. Such beauty never gets old! Your home is beautiful, and I wish for you many happy years! Btw...most homes in portugal have a bidet too!
  • @earlyNova
Frenchman here. Congratulations, you've had an unique opportunity with this house and its charming former owners! 14:39 Ah, the bidet! When I was a child, my mom explained to me (a little embarrassed) that it was used to wash feet... (Yes, it is!) But as I got older and learned more, I found out what it was really for... 😅
  • Some part of your house might be built around the 17th but, many features of this house show that it was extended or rebuilt in the early 20th. Very nice home though, and great garden 👍

Congratulations for the house ! As a french it makes me happy and proud to see you enjoying our country. And also it’s a great reminder of all those little things we’re lucky about here and that we forget because we’re so used to it. So thank you ❤
  • Jolie maison, beaucoup de charme et de potentiel, et belle propriété … Soyez-y heureux

Married to a French guy and live in Houston. Have spent many summers in France during the past 2 decades while raising my kids around the world in a mixed culture household. Great adventure you guys are living!!! Your home is beautiful as it is, many foreigners go to France and want to make their homes look like the French catalog for tourists,. Every region in France has it's charm and originality, cement homes are also part of the French architecture, love the layout of your house. Good luck from Texas. France is a beautiful place ❤

Bonjour, It was a pleasure to meet you at that nice night market just two days after discovering your videos. Small world. Enjoy this lovely season and the great activities it offers, in particular these wonderful night markets! Bonne chance pour les travaux à venir dans la maison ⚒️ Nicolas

For god sake please get rid of every pieces of cement (beton portland) especially the one covering the façade the oustide of each of your walls. Cement causes moisture en every place in your house. I mean extreme moisture . You will replace it by "chaux hydraulique" (ask your neighbourgs) mixed with sand. Ask me for more.
  • @JPS40
Thanks for the video! And congratulations for your purchase! What I can see in your videos is that you're getting more and more relieved and fullfilled, which makes me really happy for you. As a Frenchmen, we can be sometimes grumpy but we forget to be grateful to live in such an incredible country despite our moronic government. I wish you all the best
  • Superbe vidéo ! Je vis en Thailande , après avoir visionné cette vidéo , mon pays me manque tellement ! Congratulations ! I'm happy for you , I wish you the best in my country !

  • @merryfergie

When you just have the name of a fruit on a bottle, it's usually homemade eau-de-vie 😅 made off market and can be up to 80% or more. Schnaps as we call it in Alsace
  • Ever since you announced you purchased a home, I’ve waited with bated breath for your video and am over the moon happy for you and your score of a lifetime. It’s a beautiful home with loads of history to share. I’m amazed at the reasonable price you paid. Good on You! Ah! The bidet. I also have washed my feet in one. I believe it was in Italy, regardless, it’s a handy tool to have. In the future, should you find yourselves in need of a house keeper and gardener, I and my credentialed Master Gardener husband would love to serve! In the meantime, I hope you’ll continue to update us on your restoration/updating progress. Prends bien soin de.
  • Thank you so much for sharing your home with us! Very neat to get to follow you on your journey! It’s a lovely home!
