Toyota Camry 2.5 Dynamic Force Engine, 8-speed Automatic, Fuel Consumption Test / YS Khong Driving

Published 2022-03-15
The Toyota Camry's Dynamic Force 2.5 litre engine is the talk of the town, boosting power to 209 PS and 253 Nm of torque. Put together with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the drive train is very similar to that of the Lexus ES250, and although the Camry is not as plushily appointed as the Lexus, the price difference is enough to get many customers to sign up for it.

You have probably seen our test drive video, and perhaps our Genting Hill Climb video, but here we are with an actual fuel consumption test, run at normal road speeds (not at 60 km/h), so you can get an idea of just what is possible with this car.

The mooted fuel consumption under a mixed cycle is 5.6 liters per 100 kilometers - how much do you think we can do with air conditioner on, and driving at speeds up to 110 km/h?

We captured the entire 50 km test route without any edit so that you can see exactly what we did, what speed we travelled at and what traffic conditions we encountered. We used the existing instrumentation in the vehicle, and used the speedometer and odometer of the vehicle as well. What you see is what you get, so don't come at us with the usual 'you should have done this, you should have done that.

from the video itself i can see the NVH is sooo good on this new camry 👍🏻

5.9~6.1L/100km translate to 16+km per litre and manually maintaining 100km/h make sense for fc test quite okay for such heavy car and 2.5L engine thank you so much uncle

Can consider changing the display from L/100km to Km/L. Both will only show to 1 decimal point, but 1 decimal point in L/100km is a bigger jump than in Km/L. So km/L can show your fc in finer detail
  • @kahau
love this new camera angle . can't wait for genting hill climb

Thank you Mr Khong. Thoroughly enjoyed the video. This new 2.5 very efficient. It's a little sluggish off the line (likely transmission tuning for fuel economy) but after that it's more than adequate over all.

Haha around 30% better than my x70 lol Claps to Toyota engineers! Amazing efficiency
  • @hansenjkasil
for 200k car, this is very good FC..Doesnt mean high CC, expensive car we dont need FC. Eventhou we can pay for the fuel, but at the same time we can jimat the natural resources. thats the important thing.
  • @cfcreative1
kind of crazy that this engine isn't getting more publicity
  • Seems like the engine is less efficient at 90km/h. Maybe because you were going uphill. But with that said, it still achieved quite a good number. You probably could go from KL to Penang and back in 1 tank with fuel to spare.
  • @samet107
newest engine technology with 40% thermal efficiency burns 6.1 L per 100 km. Fact: A 10-year-old car will burn the same on an even road.
  • @morashc
My 21 Camry XSE with 3.5L V6 got 6L/100 on highway repeatable on several highway trips doing 100km/h. Glad I got it if the 4cyl can’t beat it.
  • @royalprince5878
Wow! Great fuel consumption but the Lexus ES250 which Uncle tested few months ago with same engine gearbox combo but much heavier recorded 5.3L/100km if I'm not mistaken. Maybe the Lexus engine and gearbox may have got slightly different tuning and calibration
  • @Edmont8228
thank you Uncle YS. saving up to buy this beauty....
  • @babangkece4548
lol uncle seems struggling to hide his heavy-foot, the speed always climbs up to around 120 then uncle back it off a bit to around 105 then starts all over again :)

  • @chipanz
Honda Accord (2013-2019 ) with earth dream 2.4L engine can get around 5.8 liter /100km with this speed. about 16.6 km / liter. on the North South hiway.
  • Boss, can do a fc test for driving in normal day to day driving conditions (traffic). Love your videos, Singh from 🇸🇬.
  • @azmiarman
    Camry vs arteon...which one u prefer..tq
