CRAZY Low On Oil Montgomery Hydraulic Freight Elevator Machine Room!

Published 2022-02-25
This was taken in January of 2021. This elevator had been low on oil since November 2020 and as you can see, the pump was leaking BADLY! The entire floor of the machine room was covered in hydraulic fluid. When the elevator got to the top, you can hear how violent it sounds, and you can hear the oil spraying out from the pump! YIKES. Currently, this elevator is low on oil again and has been since mid-December 2021. I guess they fill the tank just enough to almost get through the year lmaoooo.

The elevator at my office building did the same thing 4 years ago. I had told the day porter to remind the property manager that the elevator was tripping the last 6 inches before landing. They never did anything until one day the elevator gave out. The property manager had to fork up more money just to fix the hydraulic pump than if they had just topped it off. Now, the machine has an upgrade to a higher horsepower electric motor. The elevator operates much quicker going up or down. Glad it was fixed!

This thing is an abosulute fucking death trap. You can HEAR THE OIL SPRAYING OUT THE PUMP (as you mentioned) and the floor is COVERED in oil. Ive only seen something like this two times where the floor had oil everywhere. One of them leaked the entire tank out and it got a fully mod by TKE (Rip MontyKone) and the other got a new seal because it was only from 2001. The other had EECO power units which ive found to be very leaky and unreliable.

I see why it’s low on oil, the machine room floor is almost fully covered with oil

I don't think I've ever seen an elevator low on oil from the machine room perspective.

That might not be a leak. The fluid has a milky appearance like it's been boiled from the pump getting too hot. I think it overflows the reservoir at the bottom floor from expansion when it gets hot from heavy use.

    Oh my. :hand-orange-covering-eyes: It's a leaker.:face-fuchsia-tongue-out: Belt drive what do you know.:face-turquoise-covering-eyes:
  • Yikes, I’ve seen elevators low on oil but this thing seriously needs help (obviously not from Simon)! Normally it’s just a bad seal on the jack or something. Not the pump!

Yeah I Wouldn't Enter If There Is Oil Leaked

    Come with me… and you’ll be… in a world of OSHA violations…
  • Sadly, I think this power needs to be replaced, and if so, it should be replaced with a Minnesota Elevator (MEI), since they make outstanding elevator equipment.

That’s really really bad lol - I think this is the first video on yt that’s a low on oil machine room video

That’s no way to leave a machine room. This is a major environmental and fire hazard. I sure hope the building owners fix the leak asap, get that hydraulic oil cleaned off the floor, and pray that a fire doesn’t occur in that machine room or near that area.
