History:
'Despite the fact that the current Jarl in office is Laila Law-Giver, the residents understand that the city is, for all intents and purposes, actually owned and operated by Maven Black-Briar, and in order to survive and thrive, one needs to adhere to her rules. Maven's hold over the city is so great, that in the event of an Imperial victory, Maven takes the position of Jarl and remarks that it is only as a title, with her son serving as her steward. Despite the city's economic strength, it holds a darker side. The home of the notorious Thieves Guild in Skyrim, Riften also sees much corruption in the form of Maven Black-Briar, especially when dealing with rivals. Many poor residents frequent the less desirable areas and thieves, both Guild and freelance, take advantage of the frequent mist, dark alleys, and the Canal, preying on travelers and citizens alike. Such conditions reflect on the city; deaths are common and people will often fight in the street over dropped items..' - Fandom

Yes! I've been waiting for this one. I am a teacher and skyrim was my place to explore during the pandemic. I fell in love with this game and have explored every inch. Riften was always one of the more beautiful fall themed areas to visit. I love the environment here. It is one of the most relaxing areas to sit down, have a cup of coffee, and work.

As much as I love Skyrim, and with how many hours I have it in, every time I play it, I get a strong sense of longing for how much better it could have been. Did you know the game world is 10x smaller than it is in lore? So much stuff was cut due to this, like the village of Granite Hills in Falkreath, a Jazbay vineyard in the Aalto region of Eastmarch (Yes, that is why it's called "Alto Wine"), or Nazeem's manor in Whiterun! Heck, even the "7000" steps to High Hrothgar is literally 10x smaller, with someone apparently counting only 700 steps. That's not to mention how much of the old lore was replaced as well, the way dragons and the dragon cults were retconned in, or the Imperialization of Skyrim's religion. I highly suggest FudgeMuppet's "Ideal Skyrim" video, as it does so much to paint a far more vibrant picture of Skyrim, especially considering how vibrant the actual game turned out. I often say I would never buy Skyrim again, but damn if Bethesda remade the game with some of these things in mind, I would eat it right up.
