Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce defends her Olympic Women's 100m crown at London 2012 with a time of 10.75 seconds. Carmelita Jeter of the USA finished with silver and Veronica Campbell-Brown in bronze.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

Shelly Anne is so gorgeous. Love her smile.
-
I just love Shelly-Ann's smile--big, pleasant, and somehow humble despite her magnificent talent.Β I enjoy watching her run and am always happy to see her win! Β
-
Fraser-Pryce, Felix and Jeter are three of the most beautiful runners I've seen. What style and technique!
-
Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce is the greatest female sprinter of all time!! Absolutely gorgeous!!
-
who is watching this in 2019?!...KNOWING that SAFP is basically running these type of times 7 years later! She truly is...the GOAT!

Shelly-Ann. The people's champ. LEGEND.

I found it so beautiful when she went back to hug that little chap with the coloured hair who shouts "Shelly-Ann"! Tears came to my eyes because the officials were leading her away. The look on his little face was so disappointing before she went back to him. It is so pleasing she did. It is nice to know when you're a fan of someone you're acknowledged; especially when they are in arms reach from you.

Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce is just so lovely, always smiling and congratulating other athletes, so sweet.

SAFP is a queen. Thatβs it. And the first thing she said when she found out she got the gold was βThank you Jesus.β I have nothing but respect

You look at Felix and think to yourself wow, she's one heck of an incredible athlete. One of the most decorated on the track. Then you look at Veronica Camble-Brown, arguably the greatest female 200m runner and think geez. Then Jeter, super fast, very strong and lastly, the Goat. How does a little pocket rocket stand toe to toe with these great women? Shelly-Ann is in my eyes the greatest female athlete of all time. It's such a bold statement because Flo-Jo and the women I've named from this final alone(maybe not Jeter) make an argument to be considered the Goat. Shelly-Ann just doesn't make sense. She's so tiny. I still don't understand how? She kills you with her infectious smile before the race, and then destroys everyone before her in such a ruthless burst if speed making everyone play catch up. It's like you know what's coming but you can't stop it. Power to the great and beautiful black women. You guys are truly queens and thank you for the inspiration throughout the years. Nothing but love, all the way from South Africa πΏπ¦

This one of the best olympic 100m final ever. The stadium, the crowd, the cameras angles and the fight of the athletes everything was on point.

Possibly the greatest 100m race in history-the sheer depth of talent was unbelievable.
