You both are adults now, an you have a right to a happy life together. If family doesn't understand, that's on them not you. You do what makes you happy. It's about the two of you now, not anyone else. I'm a elderly person that's always lived my life for others. Don't do this. Life is to short to please others all the time. I am so sorry for you guys, but coming from someone that recently cut out a toxic parent - do not let them bring you down. Do not let them stop you from having the wedding you want a deserve. Do not let them stop you from being happy and living life to your fullest. Sure "family is family", but toxic is toxic. Cut them out of your lives until they can or if they can grow up and be there for you and they can watch from a far. I can't wait for the day my fiance and I finally get married and my toxic parent won't be there and I will still have the time of my life because nobody is going be there to ruin it for me.
