Going by the corporate product Secret Hideout has produced since 2017, it's easy to conclude Alex Kurtzman has yet to be in charge of a single Star Trek show

Spot on. I have no confidence Kurtzman will ever make anything resembling ST. That goes for Academy or any other concept that might be great if developed by a competent showrunner who loves what made ST great.

I think the biggest hurtle Academy is likely to face is that it's going to be compared to Prodigy, and those are some big fucking shoes to step into. I suspect the prople making Academy are praying to God Netflix doesn't commission a third season of Prodigy.
