Retired super-assassin John Wick's (Keanu Reeves) plans to resume a quiet civilian life are cut short when Italian gangster Santino D'Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio) shows up on his doorstep with a gold marker, compelling him to repay past favors. Ordered by Winston (Ian McShane), the kingpin of secret assassin society The Continental, to respect the organization's ancient code, Wick reluctantly accepts the assignment to travel to Rome to take out D'Antonio's sister, the ruthless capo atop the Italian Camorra crime syndicate.

Man, I REALLY wish that once Cassian knew John had a marker, they'd teamed up to take down Santino.

After all that John had already been through that night and then being hit by a car, he was still able to hold his own against someone a little bigger than him and who was not tired out.

John has respect for Cassian, even letting him decide if he wants to live or die at the end of their second fight. But with Ares, she gets no respect from him and is left to die.

So cassian completely understands the marker rule, but then instead of helping John go after the bearer of that marker he claims revenge against John for killing his ward even though he knows the rules. Wouldn’t a truly honorable man realize that the person who contracted the death is the one responsible for it. So honor would dictate helping John.
