Lyrics:
Struck me like a chord
I'm an ugly boy
Holdin' out the night
Lonely after light
You begged me not to go
Sinkin' like a stone
Use me like an oar
And get yourself to shore

Fab remained all song waiting for Julian to ask him for drums.
-
First listen: oh wow that's a different sound Fifth listen: damn this is pretty good Tenth listen: STRUCK ME LIKE A CHOOOOOOOOOORD
-
Drew Gooden brought me here by accident....and boy was this the happiest accident I've ever experienced
-
this is my neighbor’s favorite song, whether he likes it or not
-
I hope the animators made a shit ton of money off of this. Old school 2D is hard work and they definitely didn't cut corners here. Beautiful video.
-
I come here everyday to make sure this song is real
-
hadnt heard the strokes in a long time then drew gooden brings up their new-ish music and im blown away at how good julian still is. what a nice way to finish the day
-
anyone else cry from the pure energy the sound gives
-
"STRUCK ME LIKE A CHORRRRRRRRRRD......" ascends to the eighth heaven

Based on the video, I like to think this is mostly about different relationships with death. The boy is suicidal, the curse in the rabbit world seems to be inescapable, the aliens are transcending, and the space warrior sacrifices herself. They are all met with death and deal with it in different ways. The turn to it, they run from it, they aspire for it, and they are honored by it. A lot of deep feels in this masterpiece. And "the door" is the unknown. The void. The line between life and death. Even though these stories are very different, they are connected through life and death. Something inevitable for everything in the universe.

Don't get me wrong -- the Strokes were great from day 1 -- but they've come a hell of a long way in 20yrs. This shit is next level.
-
If this was released 15 years ago people would have gone insane. Possibly the most underrated album of all time.
-
Julian once described their music as "Imagine you took a time machine into the future and found a classic album from way in the past and really liked it." That's exactly what this sounds like
-
live performance: julian: sings rest of the band: aight time for a bathroom break
-
If this song isn't played at my funeral I don't wanna die.
-
damn cant believe i hadnt seen/heard this masterpiece. thanks drew gooden
-
it’s been 84 years
-
can not. believe they're back i'm hearing julian's voice in a new strokes song this is everything to me
-
This beautiful nostalgic animation style needs to come back as a feature-length big-budget theatrical movie.

I attended a funeral today and discovered this song yesterday for the first time. I hit play on my way to and from the funeral itself on repeat. It was an untimely passing, too young at 32. This song has given me so much perspective I’ve never held previously. Bravo Strokes
