  • Hi, Tim: Thank you for your thoughtful, thorough review. I am new to your reviews and they are helping me "get ready" for my Spring plan of starting my adventure. Thank you also for all the effort in editing and filming your videos. I just retired and you motivate me to "get out there" and make my own adventures. I admire your honesty and your desire to show the travails of travel as much as the joy. Best to you.

Have been running the Michelin Anakee Adventure for several thousand miles and to me, it is the best tire I’ve ever run on my 2012 GS.... Great wear on the street, great on fire road, gravel and a little mud (key word “little “). Hands down my go to tire.

I have loved the Anakee Wild on the front of my DR650! I have used it alot in Colorado mountains. It's very confidence inspiring, wears great and handled whatever I've encountered with total authority!
  • Great info, glad you are safe and sound! It’s such a trick to find the “do-all” tire. I have extremely limited off tarmac experience & know I won’t do a lot of serious trail riding but I want to be confident & comfortable in logging roads & deep gravel. I have future dreams of BDR’s & will absolutely get a more aggressive tire for that! Thanks again, via con Dios y paz mi hermano.

Thanks Tim. I appreciate your answering my question on tires. I have used the Heidenau K60S on my 1190 KTM adventure. I thought they worked well on the highway and ok on the dirt. I use the Continental attack trail II for my standard commute tire. Will have to try out a set of Anakee wilds.

Good to hear from you. Good topic. Too many riders ignore the fact that tires can make a huge difference in keeping upright and safe. Being able to keep your chin up and wheels down is doing it right with tires and brakes, and maintaining them both. Never sacrifice safety, otherwise you might get an adventure you don’t want. Chin up Tim.

It’s crazy I been thinking about the first two tires you mention for about a week because I’m going to change mine in a few months. I wasn’t sure which one until now that you post this video super helpful thank you 😎👍

Welcome back! Sorry to hear about your suffering. Get well soon.

In my experience across 40 years and half a million miles, wearing out two rear for every one front tire is more the norm than the exception. On the other hand, when I started doing track days, my aggressive use of the front brake caused me to wear out front tires as fast as I wore out the rear tires. This was true on both my 633 pound sport touring K1300GT and my 459 pound S1000RR.
  • @opichocal
I've plugged at least a dozen tires over the last 20 years and never had a problem. I've even wore them down to the cords and they still held air. Don't be afraid to use car tire plugs
  • @nev357
I didnt think there was much difference with tires until I started using Mitas EO9. So much more grip up front and good traction and last ok compared to others.

Just put 2 new tires & brakes on my HD Road King. As soon as the snow melts in Montana, I'm headed out for my first cross country/motorcycle trek. Haven't decided if I'll cruise all summer? You make me think I should. My kids are grown, what better time.
  • @philo5096
Great vid Tim , I just got 2 new tires for my 2018 lowrider, with labor it was 700 bucks at the Harley shop. Michelin Scorchers 31. I put 19,000 miles on the other ones. Including 2 roundtrips, Tampa to Chicago and back.
  • @HJC1950
Thanks for your tire advice. I am going to go with Anakee Adventure tires front and rear on my 2015 R1200GS. It came with Anakee IIIs which I liked but I had some reservations on those in the rain since Michelin did not brag about their wet performance. I went with street tires but now I want to go back to Anakees for the increased longevity and better suitability to forest and campground roads.
  • @davidquinn5430
I like the Shinko 805.I get 17000 km on them if I do mostly tarmac easy on the compression breaking. Deflated it has incredible traction off road.i have traction all the way till the knob is gone.its also quiet enough in the highway. Only thing is on side ways on the gravel it slides more then most I think but it’s very controllable. The price is also right. All that on a DR. Thanks for the video.good work
  • @myjhong91
Thanks Tim! I liked the 705's on my last bike but the GS is a lot heavier. This is the info I've been looking for. I'll try the Anakee Wild for the next big trip. HEAR THAT ANAKEE?
  • @advmatt
Thanks for this video. I am always interested to see what tires people are running and how they perform. The Shinko 705 I ran delaminated at 5k miles. It scared the heck out of me. Will never run those again. You got me interested in the Ankee Wilds once my current Dunlop Trailmax Missions wear out.
  • Thanks Tim. Was hesitating between the Shinko 705 and the Anakee Adventure. With that much extra mileage worth the extra cost and better overall performance
