This week I'm messing with the Digitakt II from Elektron. It is, as you might expect, the sequel to the Digitakt, a device I liked a lot but had a few somewhat glaring flaws. In my humble opinion the 2 fixes most of these and is a substantially upgraded device. I share my thoughts on this here and walk through a beat I made, then play the whole beat for you. I hope you enjoy!

I feel the same way. The D2 solved all of the problems I had with the D1, but it’s a different set of problems! I sold my D1 due to the lack of real kits, the 8 track limit and no page looping. The D2 fixed all of this and so much more.

thanks! finally understand the thing a bit better. some of the videos out there assume you know so much, you going through it so straight froward madeit make a bit more sense.

Okay... So, I just watched a couple more videos on the DT2... I'm really into it... haha. Just saw how you can record samples straight in with selected length while the pattern plays. This thing is dope.

Dope dope dope! Mine will come tomorrow 😊

This is the easiest Elektron device to use so far.. really well designed and thought out. It’s a great sound design tool. I love it

In your experience how is the stretching machine compared to the 404mk2/MPC? I’ve got all 3 and have found it to sound quite bad compared to either with a lot of wobbly ring mod type artifacts, especially when slowing samples down. I hope I’m just doing something wrong bc that’s kinda disappointing for 1k asking price :/
  • @aikighost
Yeah I really like mine its great fun and easy to use, I really would like a proper slice mode though.

Are you having trouble with clicks and pops because of the lack of zero crossing sample editing?
  • @AboutHouseMusic
Are the sample transfer speeds ever going to improve? Sounds like a massive setback.

Man, I'm perpetually drawn to the Digitakt for creating glitch, IDM, deep house, and deep tech.. At this point I wouldn't expect it to be a fully standalone groovebox/sampler especially with not proper chopping. It excels, to me, in being a drum and sample sequencing machine. I'd probably complete songs with keys/synth parts in Ableton. This really makes me reluctant to go for it because I feel like as cool as they are, they're overpriced because of how each of their devices is perpetually created to have minimal crossover, therefore perpetually and DELIBERATELY limited. There's nothing I've been on the brink of buying more than the Digitakt. It's just not in the "let me try it out" price range for me personally.
  • New to the channel. Nice overview but DANG the continued lack of chord support is baffling, even more so with 16 audio tracks. Surely they'll add that. Anyway keep up the great work and much love.
  • Interesting. Mulling this one as revisited the Digi with the Mk2 and found it just as underwhelming as my first one and incredibly limiting...wondering what I’m missing and whether I shouldn’t have returned it, but I guess it’s just not for me. Hohum :)

Haven't solved the hard drive getting corrupted! When I get past 50 percent full, all files are corrupted and can't upload anything else without reformatting the +drive. SO FRUSTRATING!

Ye talk good, real good. I like the cut o’ ye gib. Ye gona go fa’, real fa’.
  • @MyNameJeff..
I used to never understand why these were so popular. But as I start to get away from maschine (now only using kk with it) and even my mpc live, and using more hardware synths and my op-1 field, these things seem awesome.

AI as of right now can output this. There will have to be a realisation in the music hardware business that either these devices are dramatically simplified in terms of time to output or what they output will be so unique and different that one could not think of not using them. Generic hardware isn’t going to survive this enormous wave heading toward it.

Bro you need to get and go deep on the Roland mv-1 people are sleeping on this hard ware it's literally built to make songs but the only thing that sells it short is the fact you can't sound design to much but I learned how to sample properly today and can show you how to do it the right way
