On May 6th, a recycling truck challenged the 11foot8 bridge to a sort-of jousting duel. In this clash of the steel giants the old canopener got a bit rattled but I don't know that the truck escaped completely unscathed. This was crash #182 since 2008.

The bridge is OK. A crew inspected it an hour after the incident and trains have been crossing it since.

When they added the flashing signs, lights and sensors I thought it was the end of this channel. When they (at huge expense) raised the whole damn bridge I thought it was the end of this channel. Yet here I am in 2024 witnessing a fresh bridge feeding.

If only there were a camera on the opposite side zoomed in a bit to show the reactions of the drivers. Would be priceless.

Wow, the truck lifted the crash bar, then lifted the tracks! I am seriously impressed! Finally, a worthy opponent has emerged!

Whoever has the job of painting that yellow bar has job security for life!!!!

The "Overheight, Must Turn" sign needs to be more specific; "You in the Recycling Truck, I'm Talking To You"

Box trucks are usually not from the area and are blindly following a GPS, but this is someone who presumably works for this city and should definitely know better

Nothing for like 9 months, and now like 3 in the span of a month? That bridge is working overtime!

Now the truck driver knows "If I just go fast enough I can make it through", this is his new daily commute.

This channel needs a merch store with a desktop size 'OVERHEIGHT MUST TURN' flashing sign and a 11'-8''+8'' diamond sign, magnet, shirt, coaster, whatever.

Not far off 200 crashes since 2008. Imagine the celebration when we 'hit' 200, no pun intended

OMG I was the guy driving that pest control white and green truck! I didn’t expect this to be uploaded so fast!

You know the Irresistible force paradox right? That is a classic paradox formulated as "What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?" This bridge is THE "Immovable Object".
  • Louisville, Kentucky has a can opener just like this. It's on Third Street near the University of Louisville campus. It's height is also 11 feet 8 inches and has the same warning lights. Practically a twin. I think this year they have had to pull seven trucks from it.

I never thought I’d see the day when the can opener lost a fight :(

You could paint that bridge a reflective orange, with fireworks that went off every time someone was over-size, and people would still hit it.

These videos don't come as often as they used to, but they are still visual comfort food to me...
