SO. This video, at least for the standards of my channel, is absolutely exploding in popularity. I just wanted to make a statement because the amount of love and support that’s been flowing in the last 9 days has been incredible if not a bit overwhelming 😅. First of all thank you to everyone for watching this video! If you enjoyed it so much that you sent it to a friend or family member or whoever else, thank you so much for helping it grow. If you liked the video, thank you. If you subscribed after watching the video, thank you. Hell, if you all you did was watch it from start to finish, THANK YOU. Second, I can NOT promise that my next video will be as good as this one or better. I’m starting to feel like there was maybe a “lightning in a bottle” captured here that i doubt I could manage a second time. I also can’t promise that my next video will be coming soon. In the 9 days that this video has been public, I haven’t even STARTED production on a next project. The reason I haven’t tried to pursue being a content creator full time is because my passion to create seems to come in bursts that I really have no control over. What I CAN say however is that this most likely will NOT be my LAST video. I’ve been having a bit of fun making these, and I’ve enjoyed watching my channel build up a library of completed projects. TL;DR: THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR THE SUPPORT, DONT EXPECT MUCH FROM ME, SEE YOU NEXT TIME.
  • The fact the viewer doesn't know when the show could drop those huge dramatic bombs makes them so much more impactful.
  • nobody ever talks about how good this show's plot is and how deep it can get. the twins are such fascinating characters with unique personalities that i've never seen in any piece of media. this show really hits every single beat.
  • @ShakuenC
never understood why they didnt do season 2... the continuation of the story is so touching as well

Awesome video! Ouran badly needs the Fruits Basket reboot treatment. Just like original Fruits Basket anime, the Ouran anime is iconic but only scratches the surface of what the manga had in store. I would absolutely love to see a reboot where they have enough episodes to show all the characters' arcs in full. The twin's full arc is fantastic and the anime didn't have enough time to even begin Tamaki's manga arc. Regardless, the Ouran anime is an absolute classic and your video did a great job conveying what makes it so loved to this day. For real though, if you want to see more of the twins and other ways Bisco Hatori subverts the genre then the manga is extremely worth checking out.

Personally the thing that made me really like Ouran as an adult was when I read the manga and there was I think (my memory is blurry) an author's note for a spring arc or something, where she flat out states "Yeah, I know, we started in the spring, if it's spring again that would mean the senpais graduated - I don't care, I wanted to do another spring arc." That attitude towards writing it always made the story stand out. Because the continuity from a time standpoint doesn't matter, what matters is the individual changes the characters go through during those events; they can go through as many springs and winters as they want as long as it doesn't make the characterization inconsistent, and it doesn't.

Haruhi was one of the first characters that made me realize that being yourself no matter who other want you to be is an option. Should I have seen that this arc resonated with me as a sign? Maybe Well years later it basically tells me "I told you so"

So sad Shoujo anime died some years ago... Ouran is really special to me. This video made me appreciate the anime even more

The identical twins in my school tried to play the same "game" but everyone could easily tell them apart because of their acne scars. The most unrealistic thing about high school anime is how all the teenagers have perfectly symmetrical faces with no acne. XD
  • @abbyl4621
I think the twins trauma started out with that maid they liked breaking their trust and saying that no one will be able to tell them apart (as she literally robbed their piggy bank and ran off)

I’m in the same boat as you. I tell people all the time that I think Ouran is one of the best, well-written anime ever created and usually people will just laugh. But sometimes people are like no I see what you mean. This show has the most wonderful ways to subvert expectations and peel away layers of itself to show the depth of its characters and their emotions as well as why they express themselves in the way they do. For me the character that blew me away the most was Tamaki and how he genuinely does want to make everyone around him happy. In the beginnings of the show, it seems as if its built around his narcissism, but as the show develops you see his actions and learn about his backstory, you learn that “wow, this guy just wants to make people happy no matter the lengths.” I’m a Certified Tamaki Lover, I could go on and on about him for eternity lol

The only sad thing about OHSHC is that we don't have the next season or reboot. It's literally one of the best anime I've ever watched and I will never get sick of it.

I feel like another layer of the twins’ story is that they are codependent on each other. Not only do they want to look alike so ppl truly see what makes them different, but because they only had each other. Being an identical twin is inherent to what makes them them. Yet they have a hard time grappling that they can be an individual yet also the other twins’ brother. They’re not quite ready to let go of that yet. It eventually happens in the manga that hikaru dyes his hair so they’re very easy to tell apart. Yet this happens after a lot more character growth. They realize they can be different from each other and grow to be different ppl, whilst still loving each other and having their bond. They can acknowledge that they’re twins but not the same person. It’s also a way of showing they’re more settled in their identities. They feel more comfortable showing that they’re different. At least, that’s how I interpret it.

I AM URGING EVERYONE TO READ THE MANGA PLEASE ! ( the story of the twins, and the other members of the host clubs stories goes much further than the anime, and becomes more complex)!
  • @PichuElric
My only pain is that despite this anime being such a phenomenon in the west, it was largely unpopular in Japan. But I'm so happy there's suddenly a boom of Ouran content on the internet rn!! I wonder if its because the anime is finally on a specific streaming service 👀 And I also wonder if all of us binging the anime on said streaming service would let them know how badly we want a second season (or a reboot, idk I'd be happy with anything at this point) There's nothing quiet like OHSHC. It was way ahead of its time with a story that still holds up to this day, which can't be said for most shojo manga from that era tbh

OMG I FELT THE TEARS WHEN THE MUSIC STARTED PLAYING 😭😭😭

Ouran will always be my #1. No matter how many times I watch it, it never seems to bore me. It’s such a rare gem. I love the anime and the manga with all my heart.
  • @crimewizards
i havent ever seen someone talk about the twins this much in a video about the series - theyve always been my favorite part of the show precisely because of that depth. the character development they go through is why ive watched the series at least once a year since it was introduced to me in 2013-14. and youre SO right about the guitar riff and chills. that song never fails to bring me to tears during the final episodes <3
  • @drummerxkun
as a nonbinary person, ouran was honestly so ahead of the game in representation, not just of queer people and culture like an enby MC, drag etc, but also of so many strong, unique, and memorable personalities, motivations and backstories. And this applies not just to the host club but every side characters. they felt like real people i could be friend with

Ouran High School Host Club will always be one of my favourite series ever. I can't even begin to count the amount of times I've rewatched and reread it to the point of having memorized iconic lines. Whenever I need something to put on the background, it's a sign for another rewatch. And I appreciate that you gave props to the English dub!! I can't understand Japanese so I put on the dub as BGM but I think it's just as enjoyable as the sub and does a good job of portraying the characters. I think what makes OHSHC one of my favourites is that all the characters have my heart. They're all charming in their own ways and all play a part in making this series great. Another reason I love this series is because all the characters clearly love and care for each other!! It's typical for a romance series with multiple love interests to only have the love interests solely care about the main character, but in OHSHC, all the host club members have deep connections with each other. ((SPOILERS WITHIN THE PARENTHESES!!)) I think the best examples of this are: ((ANIME SPOILERS!! When the host clubs members come together in the last episode of the anime to tell Tamaki how much he means to all of them)) and ((MANGA SPOILERS!! When everyone all band together to reunite Tamaki with his mother)). The fact that the other host club members are important to each character's personal development also show the deep relationship they all have with one another. And I was so happy during the entire Hitachiin twins bit of the video!! The development arc of the Hitachiin twins was most definitely my favourite in the entire series (in the manga, especially). The twins start off narrow-minded and insisting the world was divided into "them and everyone else", never allowing others inside their world because they believed no one would come to understand them. But because of Tamaki, they've slowly started to open themselves up to everyone else and found comfort in the host club. Then Haruhi came along and shook their entire world even more so. Kaoru has always been the more perceptive and self-aware of the twins while Hikaru was more immature and oblivious. Now, the problem has become whether or not they should "maintain the status quo within the host club" because if the truth of their feelings towards Haruhi came to light, the host club which gave them comfort might fall apart. ((MANGA SPOILERS!! Although Honey and Mori don't really get as deep of a character arc as the other host club members, I think they play their role as "older brothers watching over the younger members" really well—as seen in how they give separate advice to the twins during their "serious fight")). ((EVEN MORE MANGA SPOILERS!! I love the resolution of their arc—with Kaoru learning to accept the changes of the dynamics within the host club and Hikaru maturing and becoming more understanding of others' feelings, ultimately resulting in the twins becoming more independent from each other.)) Overall, this series is so special to me and I don't think any other series can make me feel the same way. Although I didn't write about them as much, Kyouya and Haruhi are my fave characters next to Kaoru. Sorry for the long rambling, I just got excited over seeing an OHSHC retrospective. And of course it's mainly a comedy (and a great one at that) but the depths of the characters give this series so much heart. I love OHSHC so much (╥﹏╥). Your video was really good, truly got your points across!!
