The Apple Watch SE 2, like most Apple Watches, comes in two sizes, 40mm and 44mm, but which size should you get? Well today I have both sizes to show you what they look like on my size wrists, how the operating system looks on each, as well as talking about the pros and cons of each size - to help you decide which is right for you! Apple Watch SE 40mm: $249 £259. Apple Watch SE 44mm: $299 £309. Small difference in price, but big difference in look and feel. First let’s compare the two off wrist, then on wrist and then look at how messages and apps look on each and then I’ll share my final thoughts. Right away big difference in size. 44mm noticeably taller and wider. 44mm is slightly thicker, I estimate around 20%. Not insignificant, 40mm easier to slide under the cuff. Same size digital crown and side button. Let’s talk bout how each sizes wears on the wrist. I have 155mm or 6 inch wrists in terms of circumference, measuring around the wrist. For me the 44mm watch case is only a few mm less wide than my wrist. Whereas the 40mm has a good cm or so of room to spare. Because the 44mm SE 2 has a bigger watch case, the band, rubber sports band, sticks out more from the sides before folding down and over my wrist. 40mm sits more flush. Feel the difference in bulk. Combined larger width, height and thickness. When moving my wrist the 44mm is more noticeable. Where the 40mm is more unobtrusive. At the end of the day, this does come down to personal preference. If your wrists are similar in size to mine, both work but I do think one looks best. For me that is the 40mm version. It is more proportionate. Looks more like an elegant timepiece than a computer or a gadget on my wrist. Ok so if the 40mm looks best, does the 44mm have any advantages? Well yes, larger display. With more pixels, it can show more text and menus at a given time buttons too are bigger and that makes it very comfortable to use. Scrolling through settings, menus are slightly bigger on 44mm but still very readable and usable on 40mm too. Now I want to compare a email, here you can see first both a clearly readable, the Apple Watch does a great job at formatting text to be legible. But 44mm text is a bit bigger and you see more of it. Shown even more in messages. Where the text is bigger on the 44mm and the message bubble is wider and thus shows more text per line and lines on screen at a time. The larger UI on the 44mm is also good if you have seeing difficulties. Important to remember that both the 40mm and 44mm versions have the exact same features and same performance, even battery life is the same. 40mm more comfortable to wear and looks more proportionate. 44mm more even more comfortable to interact with. My advice, if your wrist size is 155mm / 6” or below go for the 40mm and it your wrists are bigger the 44mm may be best.

40mm or 44mm, what do you think? 🤔
  • @NicoPi
40 mm is perfect for me, while the 44 mm looks like omnitrix of Ben10 so big in my wrist.
  • @PhilWalsh
Great video, really helped me decide on the 40mm over the 44mm.

My favorite feature is on the new Apple Watch Ultra. The new customizable side switch is just great for any feature you use most frequently.
  • @AAppy2009
Nice comparison, i would now go with 40 mm version. Thnx for crisp and helpful video

Both sizes are great to me. It really just depends on the size of your wrist. 40 for me is more proportional, but the 44 is a nice size for those who want a bigger screen

Good work man 👍🏽 I already made up my mind to get a 40mm SE midnight , this video kind of give me a push to go ahead and I bought the same few days back. Thank you❤😊

I think I’ll go with the smaller watch since my wrist is very small. Thank you for the helpful tips! And happy Holidays! -Leah
  • Great Apple Watch SE 2 comparison video, Dion! I think it all depends on one's wrist size. You said 'diameter' instead of 'circumference' when discussing wrist size one time, which is completely understandable. Likely a habit because math and physics classes are more often discussing diameter rather than the circumference of something. Love the Apple Watch SE 2 in 'midnight'...such a classy look...and the 'midnight' colored sport band pairs perfectly!

Excellent comparison, it had EVERYTHING I wanted to know. Thank you very much!

thanks for clearing the OCD for me as a small wrist guy too with 150mm, kept thinking about changing to 44mm or stay 40mm, looks like 40mm is perfect already
  • @Cephyr
I bought 44 mm SE 2 with the Milanese Loop, it's amazing and worth the extra price for the loop.
  • Your comment about timepiece vs. gadget was very well made. I have a Garmin Venu Sq 40 mm (with quality issues, hence my interest in the SE) and I’ll probably be staying with that size, tbh.
  • @leimleim
nice review. It is not just about look though. the heart rate sensor works the best if the watch jump less during sports, hence a smaller, more wrist adjusted, would have an edge.
  • @MyBabiesKeeper23 I love that the Apple Watch SE has most of the same features as the new Apple Watch 8, but cut down to half the price . Not everyone needs the health features or always on display . But the fact that it still has the crash detection is great . Also will get updates for a along time coming .
  • Thanks for the video. So how is the watch measured? Vertical or horizontal? Mine is 44mm vertical but 40mm horizontal to the button. thanks!
  • @blissfulmountain
Thank you, this was very helpful! 40mm looks like it's the right one for me.
  • @emon_12
Thanks, your video helped me see my choice of 40 mm for a 5 7/8 wrist was the right choice, its on the way!
  • Great video brother …. The best feature for about SE series that i most like is watch faces are very interesting and memojis in that looks very great … Love from India 🇮🇳
