How good is MAX TRACTION / GRIP in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?

traction, a stat that has a minimal use on not a lot of tracks: not hidden stat mini turbo, a stat that is used constantly, used by the most important mechanic in the game (drifting), used everywhere all the time, the most important stat in the game: hidden stat

I just love how Shortcat is always able to find a perfect rivalry or companionship with a random online person.

Honestly, I think the Traction stat would be more useful if it affected your off-road speed. It still wouldn't be an amazing stat if that was the case, but it would at least be usable on most tracks instead of nearly useless.

Slippery roads also effect your Top Speed, which is determined by Traction. 0.75 Traction would result in a -2% or -3% Top Speed reduction (depending on the category of slippery road). 5.75 Traction would result in a -0% or -1% Top Speed reduction. Every point (0.25) of Traction reduces the slowdown by 0.1% While you can adapt to the slipping part of Traction, you have no control over the slowdown effect. Blooper Ink is also effected by Traction, so it might do something (even though it’s still little) even on courses without slippery road.

The friendship formed between Liam and Vertically Challenged Domestic Feline over the course of the video, and them getting top 2 with a suboptimal combo is truly beautiful.

Shortcat and Liam are the True Traction Team! Yeah, I've never worried too much about the traction stat in this game. It does seem very situational in your average online race. I mean, I could see it coming in handy for like Time Trials, though.

Out of all your "max x stat" videos, I think this one felt the most hopeless to begin with, like it didn't matter AT ALL. It was nice to see the narrative of you and Liam making the push for top two at the end. I literally clapped when you pulled it off
