With a CIF Valley Championship victory in 1991, the Clovis High Cougars return for a second consecutive year, once again facing the Clovis West Golden Eagles in 1992. As always, Head Coach Tim Simons and his exceptional coaching staff produce another fine football team led by team Captain’s Jason Adair and three year starting linebacker Scott Tafoya. 1991 WR Derek Feramisco has now been converted to QB and will lead the Cougar offense in ‘92. Rounding out the offense are FB Brice Waterman, RB’s Danny Taylor and Roy Esquivel, WR Lee Green, and the always consistent Offensive Line. Defensively, Clovis has put together a solid and hard hitting group. The defensive line, anchored by returning DE Mike Hawks, includes linemen Scott Franz and Casey Armstrong. One of the many traditions in CHS football is the pairing of aggressive and violent linebackers. Former dynamic duos like Ruth/O’Malley, Avakian/Gammon, Giguiere/Sessoyeff, are joined by ‘92 ILB’s Scott Tafoya & Craig Lingenfelter. Filling out the rest are LB’s Eric Tillman, Bruce Munster, Josh Phelps, along with DB’s Darren Van Doren, Tony Ramirez, Clarence Hutchinson, Aaron Castro, and Doug LaCroix. Two up and coming sophomores also look to make an impact in 1992, Offensive Guard Josh Poduska and Defensive Back Donnie Diaz.

In his second year at Clovis West, Head Coach Randy Blankenship fields another great team loaded with talent. Since last season’s installment of the Wing-T offense, CW is now running it to precision, thanks in part to an abundance of fine players. Led by the late great QB Brad Martin and LB Sammy Lawanson, the Eagles hope to avenge their loss to Clovis the previous year. With RB McKay Christensen out with injury, many players have risen to the occasion, including RB Andy Allen, TE Kyle Hormel, OL Mike Avery & Denver Stairs, DE’s Travis Mills & Pete Arguijo, LB Pat Ellis, DB Tadashi Gibson, and the always hard hitting SS Ryan Tyiska. Clovis West has won the 1992 NYL Championship going undefeated, now they hope to finish out a perfect season with their first CIF title since 1987.

Once again, Lamonica Stadium is sold out to see these epic rivals square off for the ultimate prize, the 1992 CIF Central Section Valley Championship.

I was coaching at Bullard in 92. These teams were VERY good. CW under Max Newberry was always very big and slow. Under Coach Blankenship they were just the opposite. And wearing those blood red unis with the Wing-T, CW was very tough on offense. Hard to find the ball. Looking at this with 2023 eyes, Clovis should have thrown about 20 bubble screens to #3 when they were in trips. Of course, nobody was doing that back then. Terrible spot at 1:38:13 One thing nobody mentioned was the seniors in this game played against the other guys since aobut 3rd grade.

bulldog stadium should of never been considered then, nor now. 40,000 seat stadium. it would be empty and look hollow, keep the games in a hs atmosphere, Friday night lights! if these games are ever that packed and you have to add bleachers, so be it! NO COLLEGE STADIUMS.
