Whatever you do, don't look up. If this thing spots you making googly eyes at it, you're gonna get grabbed. Otis Senior learned this first hand! On a horse farm in California, a UFO would begin hunting the skies above which as you might imagine, wouldnt be great for your life expectancy. But what exactly is this? Well lets discuss this in this episode!

Thanks for watching guys! Hope yall have a good weekend!
  • the dad doesn't say random words, he says the names of the horses to try to remain mentally there, it's something for his mind to do so he doesn't fall unconscious

TBH, it's refreshing to see a predator in a movie that acts like a predator. No unnecessary screaming, eats when it needs to eat etc

The shoe was important because it’s another example of a “bad miracle”. That shoe saved Ricky’s life, because he was so confused and focused on the bizarre shoe that he wasn’t looking Gordie in the eyes for long enough that Gordie came to his senses and calmed down. The problem is that Ricky took the wrong lesson from that situation and believed that he was special and Gordie just refused to hurt him and that led him to believe that Jean Jacket would do the same. That shoe was a blessing and a curse for Ricky because it saved his life but also got him killed. He never moved on from that day and kept trying to take control over it by buying the items, using it for profit and anything he could do to try to make something good come from a bad experience. But he clearly had PTSD because whenever it came up he deflected from his own experience, bringing up the SNL sketch or whatever so he didn’t have to actually talk about it himself. He was a guy who had a horrible experience, took the wrong lesson from it and then payed for trying to profit off of another creature like Gordie…

I also like the theory that JJ's species might have been confused for christian angels. His territorial form definitely gives big "Be not afraid human" vibes plus humans that misinterpreted them as something biblical would have been more likely to avert their eyes and/or bow, making them more likely to survive and their version of events to be the one more often told.
  • Fun fact: stealing a man's horse used to be a hanging offense, as if you were to steal it in the middle of nowhere, it would mean it's original owner is stranded and likely to die in the wilderness. Thus it was equated to murder.
  • Oddly enough, I haven't seen anyone talk about how that entire area was blurred on Google Maps in the movie. Someone knew it was there.

Something I've noticed about what Jordan Peele does well as a director is how his characters act intelligently, no horror movie tropes of acting like an idiot to progress the plot. His characters (almost) always react and respond to situations like a real person would (looking at you Antlers you stupid bastard) and with how horror movie characters have been for like the past decade plus that is super refreshing.

Fun fact, the screams from the people eaten by the creature were made by combining the screams of people imagining being in a roller-coaster and people imagining being eaten by a monster.
  • The shoe represents a bad miracle, like something seemingly important happening when it really isn’t. The shoe staying up caught jupes attention and kept his eyes off Gordy, something random saved his life when it really isn’t all that important.
  • I think the implications that Jean Jacket hunted other creatures in the stratosphere for food before coming down to Earth is horrifying; more monsters above us that we just can't see.

Can we appreciate OJ punching the kid in the alien costume without hesitation even after he says “Nope” ? 😂 Badass good guy
  • @anova4219
From avoiding eye contact, JJ making itself look bigger and OJ making eye contact as he backs away it really made JJ feel like a real animal.
  • The idea of stratosphere having its own unique ecosystem with flora and fauna sounds so damn exciting
  • The terrifying thing is, in this movie's "universe", that might not be the only creature out there, since there are stories of "UFO" abducting animals everywhere.

For anyone who didn’t understand the scene with the mirror ball on the plunger, OJ was doing what he does best and just focusing on work and his horses and he was planning to train the horses to not be afraid of the CGI mirror ball since that’s what spooked Lucky and lost them the job in the beginning. The same as the scene where the trains Lucky with the flags and wavy arm men so it doesn’t spook. It didn’t really have anything to do with the alien but it shows that OJ does actually know his stuff and he knows how to correct his mistakes and learn.
  • I love the explanation that the reason JJ has never been seen before is that avoids humans like other wild predators (bears, wolves, sharks) but when Glenn started feeding it, JJ suddenly became bolder and decided we were good enough to eat as well. Don't feed wild animals, kids.
  • In regards to why Jean Jacket hasn’t been seen before, either Peele or one of the other creators note that it’s design is partially based on biblical depictions of angels (mass of wings, rings, and eyes) so it’s possible it’s been viewed in the past but given divine meaning.

I've heard the shoe explained as how during traumatic events we seam to focus on the weirdest things. Like a friend of mine was in a car accident and the car flipped and left a good crater in the dirt that was stopped literally millimeters from a gopher hole. My friend said he literally just started laughing because he was in shock and the absurdity of the gopher hole is all he could focus on. Not the broken car, not his own injuries, not even everyone else's status. He just sat their laughing at a gopher hole like a mad man.
