Hello everybody! Japanese people are really thin! It’s probably one of the first things you’ll notice when you come here! But the question is, why?

Maybe it’s because of our advanced fitness equipment like the long piro piro! You might think that it looks like a normal party whistle, but it’s much more than that! This thing will build your core muscles and help you burn fat, while training your facial muscles! With one blow, you’re getting thinner and more beautiful at the same time!

So WHY ARE Japanese so thin? Well, there are several reasons. But not all of these reasons are good or even healthy. In fact, I’ve had my own struggles with trying to fit in with Japan’s thin-obsessed society. But before I tell you my story, let’s look at how Japan is designed to keep people thin!

My mother is a professional pastry chef, and I learned how to bake from her. One trick I started using to lose weight is if I see a pastry that I know how to make (cookies, cakes, etc) I say to myself "I know what is in that" or "I can do better" or "i know what this tastes like already" and this is how I talk myself out of eating it. I also used my knowledge of baking to cut out fats and surgar in the things I make at home. Most of my pastries are 30-70% less calories now. I encourage everybody to learn the chemestry of baking so you can cut unnecessary calories from your food too.
  • Really appreciate how you incorporated your own story into this as a way to show some personal perspective to the audience! It makes it more relatable imo. I've also been wanting to visit Japan (since I have a friend there), but it might be a little trickier since I'm vegetarian 😅

A note about the sugar/sweetener at the table. Those are for the benefit of people who order coffee. It is usually served black at restaurants, so the customer would add sugar, powdered creamer, or artificial sweetener to their taste. Also, America also has, an apparently unique, thing where most restaurants/fast food places allow free refills on most drinks.

As someone who's currently in the process of losing a lot of weight (highest weight was 321 lbs/146 kg, started seriously trying to lose weight at 309 lbs/140 kg, currently 283 lbs/128 kg after about 12 weeks, goal weight 185 lbs/84 kg), I can confirm that letting go was the first step (not just of the emotional pain from people making fun of my weight, but also of the idea that I had to eat to get full, like every other American does). I'm doing this for me...I don't want to wake up one day when I'm 40 years old, and find myself headed to the hospital with a heart attack that I might not survive (I just turned 37 a few days ago). I've begun eating more vegetables, and almost completely cut out sugary drinks and desserts. I'll soon be starting back on the gym grind, as well. Mrs. Eats, I appreciate you sharing your story and your bravery, I wish all the best for you and Mr. Eats on his journey, and I hope to hear more of it in the future. Meanwhile, I'll be cheering him on while on my own journey to health :) .

The sugar packets are for people who get coffee or tea and want/need to sweeten their drink. It's not for the soda.
  • @Maderyne
For me, sweet candy, doughnuts, and sugar cola drinks were my problem. One day I decided to stop buying them. I ate oranges, apples and grapes to get the sweetness, passed on the pastry, and began drinking tea instead of colas. Bit by bit, the pounds fell off and I felt better. The only downside was my clothes no longer fit me. That was when I knew I had won!

There is no reason why this channel has so few subscribers. You guys have so much high-quality content. I really appreciate the effort put into your videos. Please don't give up as a YouTube content creator!
  • (19:14) This part made me cry because you showed us how you overcame these obstacles. You were probably scared on sharing this information with your viewers but I think you nailed it. You showed us that the best part of a journey is when you spent time with the people you care about.🥰

When I was in America for 4 weeks I lost 5kg, yet when I was in Japan for 3 weeks, I gained 3kg XD japanese food just tastes so good
  • Your story about the physical and mental challenges you had when you were younger has touched me, and in a way I can relate I didn't have wait related difficulties, my difficulties were more to do with what, I was born with, at school I was picked on because of my ADHD and autism it still affects me today like making new friends and if they would except me.
  • So cute, running with the toast!! Love KevOnStage My husband and I just put down our deposit to visit Japan for the first time next fall! We have been working out to get in better shape so we can hike in the countryside and hustle around the cities without getting tired

I’m always excited when I visit my sister in law whose from Aomori, because she always cooks traditional food from there. She loves how excited I get when she says she going to make yakisoba, Udon, even miso soup, cause no one else in the family has tried to embrace Japanese culture. When she found out I was studying Japanese history and language, she would talk my ear off in a good way. Her meals are the one escape from the sugar laden food that’s all over America. Plus I know it’s legitimately prepared the right way. I never have stomach problems like I can have with some American foods and chains. I’m a slightly picky eater, egg 卵 would be the hardest for me, but I’d absolutely try everything I could there if it’s even close to her cooking.

The last part made me cry. I lost a lot of weight over the last years, after i gained a lot troughout a abusive Relationship i had after i left my also very abusive Family. As Kid i was always the super skinny one, people always tellt me i should eat more and even bullied me for my skinny chicken legs and being a Ginger also didn't help much. But i didn't get much food at home, so i never gained much weight until i had the chance to leave them. But as i said, i got from one Hell in the other Hell. There i gained a lot of weight and people started saying, just stop eating, you are so fat, you will die early, ect. ect. But i couldn't stop, quite the opposite, the more people and my Ex-Boyfriend treated me badly, the more i ate and isolated me xx. I have still a bit to loose and it's getting really hard, when you at a state, where results come slower and slower. And you are right, loosing weight didn't help my mental-health. I'm at 76kg now and still feel like my 110kg self and think People make fun of me, when they compliment me and stuff. I don't had a boyfriend since the breakup 3 Years ago and even though i sometimes miss the company, i can't bring myself to trust a Guy at the moment. Especially because I'm afraid that my mental state is not yet far enough that I don't fall for the same type of man again. Thanks for youre nice and helpfull Words and for youre Videos who make me always smile :).

While watching this, I was pleasantly surprised and appreciative of your own story. I’m Japanese-American and this really helps me understand why my grandparents would talk about my or my cousins weight all of the time. I thought they were just saying these things to be mean, but now I see it may be more of a cultural thing passed down. I am starting a journey myself with losing weight and trying to be the best version of myself, and your story was so inspiring and exactly what I’ve been needing to hear. Thank you so much and best of luck to Mr. Eats and his road to better health. Please do give us some updates! ❤ you and your channel

Yes, we love Mr. Eats. Take good care of him and keep him healthy. Looking forward to the progress he is making...😁🤗
  • You bring so much joy to other people. I wish both you and Mr. Eats good health. I’d also love to see Mr. Eats journey.
  • The sugar on the table is for the tea and coffee, plus the salt and pepper is for adding more spice to the food. My brother was like skinny and can eat like those kids there when he was younger, now his metabolism has slowed. I’m trying to lose weight myself.
  • @koji_h
Thank you for sharing such a personal story about your struggles with bullying and trying to fit with social norms. I have a teen family member who is also Japanese going through the same experience and it breaks my heart seeing her go through that. You said it best in that we need to give compassion and understanding to help anyone through it. I hope she’ll have the strength and make sure to support her through it so that she can be a strong as you are.
