Happy Loving Day: A Wedding Film Celebrating A Once-Forbidden Love

Happy Loving Day! June 12th marks the anniversary of the day when America finally legalized interracial marriage. For Warren & Alison that was a special consideration made when they decided to get married on this day last year. And so every year, it can be a reminder of not only the continual closeness that they're cultivating in their marriage, but also of the progress that is at some level being made with the country that they live in. It was such a fun and intimate wedding and the bonds of love and support were wholly felt and very present.

As a member of an interracial marriage myself, the perceived normalcy of interracial dating is something that I've begun to take for granted. Once upon a time, it would have been illegal for me to be with my wife. Zhaun and I are friends of 'Warrison,' (the couple name for Warren and Alison) and we are each in our own respective interracial marriages. Speaking for myself, I can say that being involved in this celebration was truly a privilege. And in a sense, being present on the day itself, aside from the fleeting moments I was fiddling with camera settings, seeing such a diverse attendance of friends and family joining together with joyful words and laughter, was like I got to relive my own day all over again. While aiming to be unobtrusive, somehow I still felt seen. I felt welcomed. I felt safe. Having just celebrated my own 4 year anniversary just over a week ago, the feeling is still fresh.

There is SO much to celebrate! But before I get long winded- I'll digress here. Happy anniversary to Warren & Alison!! Let us celebrate the continual breaking down of the invisible barriers that try to keep the light of love in the dark and prevent those who truly care for the person that lives beneath the surface of their partner.
