I cannot BELIEVE I missed the dragon lady next to the communion spot! I didn’t see her at all when I went by and now looking back she’s SO obvious! Bonk has failed you on this one guys! 😔
  • You missed an NPC next to the Dragon Communion altar (she was standing where you got the Flowerstone Gavel and Priestess Heart). She is a priestess of Dragon Communion and explains that Bayle betrayed Placidusax in ancient times and was the one who tore the Dragonlord's missing heads off. In turn, Placidusax tore Bayle's left leg off and ripped his wings to shreds, causing Bayle to flee. The ancient dragons, seeking vengeance, then instituted the practice of Dragon Communion to hunt down and exterminate Bayle's descendants (the modern lesser dragons). In short, Bayle is literally Dragon Satan.
  • Igon - Aegon Bayle The Dread - Balerion the Black Dread George thought he was sneaky…

To be fair, both sisters were simping over their red-haired crushes. Renalla was broken hearted by Radagon, and Relanna followed after Messmer

Some lore on the Jagged Peak: First off, it's said by the ancient dragon lady that Bayle challenged Placidusax, lost, but ran away before being killed, thereby disgracing and dishonoring himself. It's implied here that Bayle is the reason Placidusax is missing heads, although it isn't confirmed as far as I'm aware. The ancient dragon lady also makes a clear distinction between Dragons (four wings, four legs), and Drakes (two legs, two wings), implying Bayle is something of a progenitor of Drakes in a similar way Placidusax is to Dragons. They seem to be renaming lesser dragons to Drakes, but there might be an actual distinction I don't know about. Secondly, as you ascend the Jagged Peak, the path is littered with dead drakes. I'm 90% sure this is a result of Dragon Cultists ascending the mountain in an attempt to kill Bayle and killing any Drakes along the way. This seems to be confirmed by the corpses of people you can find with flowers (Dragon's Calorbloom) growing out of them, which state in their descriptions that they only grow out of the hearts of people who "oft partook of the dragon communion", implying they killed a lot of drakes and ate their hearts. I was under the impression that there was a distinction between Dragon Cultists and Dragon Communers, but the Priestess Heart item you get from said Priestess after killing Bayle makes it clear they're the same group. It's really cool worldbuilding to see the buildup to the Bayle fight, as it clearly shows how badly the ancient Dragons and Dragon Cultists want Bayle dead, while also showing just how strong Bayle is, even in a severely weakened state, missing a leg and both wings. Bayle being the progenitor of the Drakes/lesser dragons would also explain why they're hated so much by the true Ancient Dragons, but again, it's not clear whether they're the same thing or not. There's a lot of seemingly overlapping terminology with Dragon Communion, Dragon Cultists, Drake Warriors, Drakes, Lesser Dragons, and Ancient Dragons, so it's hard to say conclusively whether they're all different things or if they're just the same words for a single thing. Either way, I'm sure Vaati and Smoughtown will tell us in a week or two.
  • Bayle the Dread is almost certainly a Game of Thrones reference since "Balerion the Dread" is the name of the dragon who melted the swords to form the Iron Throne

1:18:52 what a perfect scene lmao Igon coming in singing our praises and being an absolute hypeman whilst Jack is getting humiliated and thrown against the lockers

Ansbach tells you that Mohg didn't actually kidnap Miquella of his own accord instead he was bewitched by Miquella. This means we all gotta apologize to Mohg of accusing him of being a Mohglester although he did form a blood cult of his own accord so, there's that😅

Jack: uses flame magic on a dragon that spews flames and is covered in "fire lightning" which is somehow a thing Also Jack: That did almost no damage!!!!!!!!!
  • @dan20a5
Jack going past the Dragon Communion Priestess SO MANY TIMES without noticing her makes me feel so much pain in my soul yet it's so hilarious...
  • @Tillie_Egg
the delivery on the "summon me, summon my soul" gives heavy like, heath ledger joker vibes like "LOOK AT ME" the delivery is so fucking good i love that line
  • @OmegaChaosZ
When Bonk became Slice, and you're correct, it was Ancalagon the Black. Of all the waterfalls you've checked behind, you didn't check the one that was guarded by the mariner? JACK Not me fan-girling out when Bonk and double Bonk hit the synchronized lion claw on the hippo.

Jack, lil lore drop here: The reason that bayle is missing it’s limbs, is the same reason placidusax is missing its heads. They fought each other at some point, and it ended with both of them ripping limbs off.
  • @Birdseed99
Bayle using his exposed and broken wingbone as a spear is one of the most badass things I've seen a dragon do.

I've been watching a couple of different Elden Ring playthroughs. I think you're one of the only few who's reading the stories connected to the items, thus allowing the audience to learn the lore with you. And you're also repeatedly going back to the NPCs to learn some more lore drops as well. I really appreciate that and just want to say thanks. I'm not able to play Elden Ring, so being able to see these bits of lore is welcome.

Lamenter is honestly an interesting npc boss since it is (if I remembered correctly) the only boss to inflict a special debuff similar to death blighted/curse that cannot be reproduced outside this guy. Any time this guy starts “laughing”/“crying”, any of his clones that remain in the arena gives the player one mask per clone. If the player gains 8 masks, the player literally dies to depression.
  • 8:12 Yes, his name was Ancalagon the black and was the largest dragon ever created, sadly he was super short lived but when he died his falling corpse is said to have crushed 3 volcanoes.

For anyone stuck on Bayle, try using the Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana. It’s literally designed to kill dragons; it always deals extra damage to dragons, applies bleed, and the weapon art can fire a slash projectile and the startup cannot be interrupted. You get it from one of the required mini bosses before getting to Bayle.
