what blows my mind is that they shot this movie in 19 days

JK Simmons still scares me. I feel like at any moment he is going to lash out.
  • JK. Simmons is so good at playing awfully terrible asshole characters but hes such a nice guy in real life

“Extremely efficient in shooting these scenes.” Only had a $3.3 million budget and was shot over 19 days. I bet more time and money is spent when JK Simmons makes an M&Ms ad.
  • You know a movie is great when it pulls you into the same anxiety. Like a horror movie it gave me that heart pounding feeling the character was going through. The feeling of not ever letting your guard down cause this guy was going to flip or the kid was gonna break. I've never had a horror film experience from a drama like this movie. And no matter what musical experience you have had we all can relate to this. If not some crazed band leader then it's you inside being that to your self. Expectation and drive for one self. I think we all have those times we put so much on our self. That's what makes this movie amazing. You don't have to be a drummer or in a band to identify with the feeling

I've never had more anxiety watching anything ever

JK Simmons was so good in this film that, to this day I still think his a bad person and that his faking it in this interview.
  • People are not giving enough credit to Miles Teller for his performance.

What's particularly unnerving is that you genuinely don't know what he wants out of this kid. Does he genuinely see something in him? Or is he just toying with him and getting a thrill out of watching him suffer?

This video makes me want to watch the movie for the 7th time now

The thing that peaks my interest is that, how the hell is that director/writer so young and inexperienced (compared to the big shots), yet so successful in this movie?! I know that a big part of the movie's success is from J.K. Simmons' performance, but the editing is really well done! And how the hell did he do that at such a young age?

JK is such a great actor.. his delivery of the nice person off screen is just so believable.
  • I saw Whiplash at a special screening in Hollywood and J.K. did a q&a after the film. Funny enough he really couldn't stand the character of Fletcher and did not believe that it was worth it to endure such abuse to become great, nor did he agree with his "Good Job" speech. He was such a sweet guy.

Miles Teller is one of the greatest actors of all time. His way to take any character and put this beautiful humanization, reflection and depth is absolutely astounding.
