Hi all, I'm the animator and co-writer on the script. I already see a lot of questions regarding some of the choices we made in the script. Feel free to reply with questions, I'll try and answer what I can. And thanks for the fun introduction Chris!

Everyone agrees the 30% of calories that are wasted on the plate is a huge problem. The 97% of calories wasted raising beef on crops is somehow still controversial.

👍 Whole food plant based for the environment and health; vegan for the victims!

I'm lovin this "video of the week" thing. Keep it up!

Congrats on this prestigious gig, Chris! Well done on the narration, and thanks to the Global Food Security Conference scientists and their team for making this very easy-to-understand video.

The higher up you eat in the food chain, the more energy is lost. It's quite a simple concept that either people forgot or they missed that day in school. We have the option to eat more plants, the lowest on the food chain, and yield more energy/calories as a population while simultaneously needing to grow less livestock feed. More free land for rewilding, more calories for our population, less animal suffering, a healthier population, so much less CO2 emissions. It's a win win win win win for our planet and society.
  • For the end, I would have loved a recommendation of permaculture, trading off more human labor in exchange for higher efficiency per acre, biodiversity restoration, and the end of a ton of environmental damage from agriculture (soil erosion, the biggest animal, insect and plant extinction ever, water contamination, water use, perturbation of the water cycle, etc.).

I'm happy to no longer eat animals. 🕊️💕🌱🌞🌻

The University of Minnesota published a study that found that switching to a plant based food system and eliminating biofuels could feed an additional four billion people. Here is the title of the study- "Existing cropland could feed four billion more by dropping biofuels and animal feed"

Belgium!! My country! the land of Biscoff and chocolate (mostly vegan by the way) ;-) Thanks for a job well done doing the voice over!

Unfortunately, improving yields is often tied to reducing nutritional value.

Chris, thanks for sharing the Global Food Security Conference's film. The only point I question is at 8:25 when the list of 4 "environmentally friendly diets" includes pescetarian. The world's oceans are already heavily over-fished. How could they stand switching people from eating farm animals to eating much more fish. Farmed fish have their own problems. Still, other than that point, a great short film to help people understand the math.

Yet another excellent example of why I have been a long time subscriber! Thanks again!

This was - sort of - the subject of my master thesis more then 30 years ago.
  • Again and again, we see missing the crux of the main issue, which is the super dominant ingrained culture of Carnism! We don't face technological problems as such but a gigantic cultural issue. Technofixes are carnist attempts to continue business as usual until the very fatal end.

Absolutely amazing video illustrating all the concerns that should be talked about more in todays world. Excellent narration, script, and visuals and its demonstrated in such a way that it is easy to understand for all ages. Thanks so much for being part of this! Your videos are always amazing and my family and I always look forward to seeing new videos from you. Would love to see a video from you on how the world has changed from a health/environmental stand point from your perspective when you are young to today if possible...similar to Attenborough's A Life on Our Planet which was also amazing in itself. Thanks!
