Is this London's most Pointless Cycle-Lane?

Published 2022-11-23
This was originally supposed to be a short but came to 19 seconds over the limit.

For extra green brownie points, the developers of Reynard Way, a crescent of new houses by St Faith's Church in northern Brentford, Middx., thought they'd fit their one-way crescent with an entire contra-flow cycle lane the entire way along.

The same benefits could've been achieved by simply excepting cyclists from the one-way system, but one must admit that it is an absolutely beautiful cycle lane.

Heh, I've been down there a few times for deliveries. Maybe it's pointless but on the other hand lets drivers know to expect cycles coming the opposite direction. Although could have been achieved just with symbols and not a painted line that is blocked by bins anyway so I suppose it is.
  • My thanks go out to those 19 seconds for saving me from the awful shorts player. Regular player much preferred :) That cycle lane is very pointless. If that gave the developers more green credit, I think it's a very good argument for why the planning system needs some criticial thought applied, rather than just applying rules when they don't quite fit!

It's not completely useless though. Without the cycle lane, cyclists could not (legally) ride in the direction you went because it's a one-way street. The bike lane addresses the fact that there is enough room for two-way bike traffic but not for car traffic.
  • All in the name of climate change lol, good thing is that at least it's better than nothing i guess 🤣
