mickey was my cousin, his dad was my mums brother. we grew up together along with our brothers. he was just a lovely looking guy and to see this is quite upsetting. we lost touch after he got married and his wife was pregnant, i never met his child. my brother used to see him in his later years when he moved back to his mums. Mickey died at the hospital where i was working, they did everything thay could for him. Such a loss , he was voted the most handsome guy in Europe once and i have that picture. Such happy memories of our childhood. Still think of you R.I.P
  • I knew Mickey when we were in our mid teens and his family lived in Upper Norwood, he was beautiful looking then but really shy. Perhaps that why he took drugs and drank, to overcome that, added to which most people in the club scene had been taking drugs since the early sixties. I last saw him when we were in our early twenties, sporting black nail varnish and looking stunning. He had by then joined Marc Bolan and T Rex. He was a lovely guy who had he been less shy and perhaps an addictive personality would still be with us today. I am glad I knew him.

I was lucky enough to meet Mickey when he came down to Bournemouth.  We met when I was travelling to Bournemouth by coach.  He was a beautiful man, humble and still struggled to believe Mark had died.  When I met him, he was a lost soul.  He lived around here for some years and used to carry my son around on his shoulders.  I have some very wonderful and fond memories of him and he is lost to us all far too early in his life.  The last time I saw him he looked fairly well, but he was not in great health.  Mickey and his wife split and he saw less and less of his son.  I knew him from around 1982, but I didn't see him after he left here some years later.  Love you man and will never forget you.  Miss you!  I hope I see you again whenever my time comes.  Graham passed on 5th September, so I hope you will both be jamming again.  You were far too young and far too lovely to leave this world.  Love you xxx

I toured with Mickey, he was one of the loveliest men you could ever wish to meet.

I wish Mickey could have lived many more years.

I knew Mickey when I lived in Crystal Palace with my friend Jim at about 18. He was living with his Mum. My friend Pete bumped into him at a bus stop nearby and to cut a long story short we met and became acquainted. Even though he was obviously struggling with his health, I remember liking this very charismatic chap. I was sad when I heard he had died.

Despite obviously being affected by a life of excess, this is an absolutely fascinating and informative interview and Mickey was clearly a bright and articulate man. Great stuff.

Beautiful sad man. Obviously very unwell here. Nice to hear about the early TRex days

T.Rex 1971 was my fave T.Rex period. Great Line-up and super music. There was something real special about these guys :D

Thank you for sharing this. Although Mickey was obviously not in good health, he clearly loved talking about his life. There is so little we know about the real Mickey Finn and all we can hope for now is that more gems like this turn up. I so wish there was a biography, his life story would be a fascinating read. It’s no secret he abused himself through drink and drugs, but this man played an important part in the 70’s music scene and deserves to be remembered
  • thank you for your kind words Keri, I often think about him and wonder what road his son has taken.
  • I remember Mickey as a child we lived next to him and his mum and brother in upper Norwood.he was a really nice guy and when my mum would get locked out hed help us get in.we had his album with mark and mickey on it and I must of been about 7-9 years old but I remember asking him to sign it for me lol. But very good memories of him is good to see this video.i was just watching a movie and t rex came on and thought I'd check any videos just on him.the last time I remember seeing him he looked not so well as I never remembered him walking with a stick I was sad when I heard he passed but im glad that this video was done as now I'm older I would of loved to hear about all his life. RIP MICKEY XX

I met Micky through Garry Cooke and Sally Baird who lived in Upper Norwood. Lovely guy and because I'd been a T-Rex fan since I was about 10 I was gobsmacked the first time I met him. :)
  • It’s a shame the music industry didn’t look after him a little bit. He was in the biggest band on the planet in the early 70’s for heavens sake. Yes, I know he lived life to the full in those days and the excess obviously took its toll but his mind was very sharp here. I doubt I could remember things or bring them to life like Mickey did in this interview. With a bit of help I think his life would have been a lot easier and probably longer. Marc would have wanted that to be the case for certain. I know he would have been so thrilled and proud to see T Rex, finally, inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Love you Micky. The early albums are among my all time favorites. I came in, after hearing Metal Guru, couldn't afford the latest releases, but lot of Marcs older material was sold at a price, my budget could afford. Totally different and other worldly, but grew on me. From Unicorn, to Tanx. Thanks for your contribution brother! Team work is how the dream work!
