A college that is JUST for fashion could both be the nicest place or the worst. The fashion community can be very nice and inclusive sometimes, but there is a lot of disagreements and opposite opinions

I swear Rainbow High could make a killing if they made real-life full size versions of some of these outfits. I'd kill for Jett's drawn-on jacket.

not Cristina vee voicing ANOTHER character when shes still voicing Marinette, Verosika, and so much more like this girl is a legend.

Holy crap, I always knew you said "break a leg" in the theater but I never knew that it was "to get into the cast." It makes so much sense, I feel dumb haha

Just wanted to add that the main reasons ppl were accusing MGA of queer baiting with jade and bella were the use of the # jella in the rainbow high side series the vi life, as well as giving corporate "just wait and see what's under the rainbow 😜" responses to ppl who asked about the ship on insta

I recall another youtuber who briefly went over the RH story and it still annoys me that this 'school' doesn't allow it's students to use their work to better their career/future. Getting more insight and seeing a further break down I can confirm RH is more like a corporation they all work at instead of a school. If an art school exists/existed that prevented you from building and using your portfolio (their primary purpose) then I hope everyone sees it and RUNS.

They knew Bella was going to leave from the start. I believe the teasers/early episodes showed that she had somehow left, so that was the big thing that they showed the series would lead up to. For example they showed previews of their big project at the end being disastrous and featured Jade saying that this wouldn’t have happened if Bella were here. When they initially released the dolls, they focused on the main 6, and I think Bella was part of the series 2 dolls.

Honestly, I'm a fan of this show and the doll line. I mean, I can't buy anything, but I actually unironically like the series. It motivates me to be better in my own college life in an art school. Not to mention the outfits help me with arranging clothes too. Unironically waiting for the third season. I miss Monster High and Ever After High, so I guess this is my current binge-series rn. It's not super great but it is chill. They even Livestream episodes sometimes and it's chill enough to leave it playing in the background while I actually work haha.

I remember being so confused by the show adding a jock character... this is an art school, wouldn't the boys be artists too? I'm not saying sports can't overlap with creative arts, but it just feels odd to me. I guess they only did it to fit into "American high school" ideals, which just tires me out mentally.

I have never seen this series but just from this video I can only say that naming the one dark skinned character "Jet" would have been a horrible idea and I'm glad they changed direction before it was too late.

The fearleading squad in Monster High wear 5-inch bolt-shaped platform heels as a part of their uniform. So the shoes that the cheerleading squad in Rainbow High wear is nothing to write home about

Honestly the shows cute, but like you said definitely just to sell dolls. I do like a doll line with an associated show tho! I’m excited to see the pacific coast show/mini series and the shadow high spin off!

Bella’s sales and fan response actually is what brought her back to the rainbow high series, she even got a second doll in a line that probably wasn’t originally going to include her

I really don't like how they handled Bella's return. I liked the idea of her taking a risk and it paying off but that didn't happen. Bella broke the rules, and basically used money and a technicality to reenter the school. On top of that, Bella gets what she wanted all along, to work with her idol. Consequences amount to, "You know that friend who told you not to the thing. You don't get to hang out with her any more." I really believed they could have written a better resolution.
  • as someone who studied animation at uni i just gotta say the rainbow high characters look less like art students and more like the kids who would have bullied said art students in high school

the thing about dolls and ethnicity, as an Asian person, is that when the only change is the skin color and they all have the same face, it leaves me hanging in limbo. Is the one with black hair and lighter skin really East Asian like me, or just a white person with black hair? They sure look the same as all the other dolls, and usually these things take place in pocket dimensions without race, so there's never any definitive answer. edit: I do mean this about all doll lines: there's a very popular tumblr post praising the diversity of newer Barbie dolls. Intrigued, I went to the site and found a total of... about three East Asian dolls. I collected research on this back then, but explicitly Asian Mattel dolls still do lag behind all other races in quality of representation.

The queerbaiting thing is because they started hinting at the shipp on socials and on Vi Life but then made the "best friends" move. It would've been okay if they just left the shipp alone if they were planning to not make it canon, but the fact that they hinted at it being canon and then it wasn't is what makes it not okay. Also, kinda lame to have a brand with a rainbow thematic and a "embrace diversity" message but not throwing any queer rep in it.

Okay my boyfriend and I watched these kind of ironically the same way we did with Monster High (ended up unironically loving that series despite some of the cringe and flaws) and I was practically frothing at the mouth from how frustrated I was. This series so BADLY wants to be in a college setting it hurts; all of the drama is super 'freshman in college' in vibe and the school literally functions like an Art University or very similar to the one I went to for four years. Even the outfits and sense of style feels very college age to me, I didn't see a lot of people wearing stuff like this in high school but it was just too much effort. You got to Art Uni for a little and realize everyone dresses up like mad when they don't have a morning class.
  • They did a lot more with "Jella" in the episode she was expelled. With Jade and her having what if it was done with a Boy and Girl would be seen as a date.
