Beautiful Brick work on those old buildings and the wood doors are amazing. Russia needs to have a Preseservation Society to make sure they are restored.

Old architecture is my FAVORITE....it's sad that so much of it is in disrepair and are being torn down, instead of being saved.

I will never get to walk those streets, nor even the old streets in my country again. So it is especially lovely to “walk” your streets with you and feel the fresh dampness of the new leaves while admiring the work of long gone artists. Thank you! I laugh…we are ALL wearing Chinese shoes and cheap clothes from sweatshops in Pakistani etc. only the wealthy can afford local-made products!

The reason houses are like that is not because the ¨Great Flood¨ conspiracy theory... In Imperial Russia, building codes and tax laws often assessed properties based on the amount of livable space above ground. By building the basement partially below grade (underground), homeowners could reduce their tax burden and comply with building codes while still having additional storage or living space. That kept going on decades after the Imperial Russia was gone for aesthetic reasons and also to reduce taxes in the properties.

Dan thank you for showing us. My late husband Josef who was born in Soviet Union and his dad was a white soldier under Czar Nicholas. He escaped to Poland after witnessed the revolution. He burned his uniform . He loved life before Red star. Really enjoyed watching it.
