Dr. Katie Avelar, a veterinarian, shares her entire daily routine—including all the measures she takes to protect her skin, hair, and clothes from the elements while treating patients. From waking up with her dogs for an early walk to protecting her skin from heavy chemicals and fragrances for the sake of her furry patients, Katie shows just us how hectic and fulfilling days on the job as an animal doctor can be.

She literally just ran miles and then says "I take a cold shower to wake up." We are not made the same 😂😂😂

I’m realizing just how much thought has to go into your beauty routine when you’re a vet. Thanks for sharing! I’ve learned a lot.
  • I never even thought about scented products when working with animals. How sweet.

I've wanted to be a veterinarian ever since I was a kid, but I started developing chronic pain that makes it difficult for me to walk. Some days I use a cane, other days crutches, and on bad days I use a wheelchair. Because of this, I thought I couldn't become a vet, and the people I told about this also accepted it as fact that I couldn't be a vet in a wheelchair. Well, this video inspired me to research other vets in wheelchairs and it turns out that there are other people out there doing it! As long as I stick with small animals and have good assistants it should be totally doable. When I started to get sick, I knew I would have to give up a lot of dreams I had for my life, but this is one I think I can still accomplish! Thank you Dr. Avelar for giving me the inspiration to try again <3
  • vets and any type of person who dedicates their lives to animals are heroes, in my eyes.
