Playing a 2 5 1 (in G), chords scales and pentatonic licks.

This is a video on some fundamentals of playing chord changes, in this case, a 2- 5 1 in G major. This ubiquitous chord progression can also be written as II V I or ii V I. This should help you learn and practice improvising these basic chords, G major scale, and even a few Em pentatonic licks and riffs. I also show you a straightforward way to recognize and play chord tones and non-chord scale tones. Chord tones are notes from the chord being played at that time. Non-chord scale tones, or scale tones for short, are notes from the scale that are not in the chord being played at that time. These notes are the basis of most melodies and harmonies. This is an excerpt from a recent guitar lesson.

The beautiful backing track is from @Jon MacLennan. Here is the link to that track:    • 2-5-1 Backing Track in G Major

He has a lot of great backing tracks; I use them often. Go give him a like or three and a subscribe!
