Coolnessnesss. I was surprised how nobody suspected that Uesugi could have been bullied at work?
  • We had one co-worker constantly being ragged on by the others. They would make fun of his vehicle, of his mannerisms, of his personality. I would quietly remind them that this person owned a LOT of firearms. Everybody would kind of pause.

I was a footman in D-5 that day & responded from out of sector. One of the most traumatic scenes I've ever witnessed during my career. Call first came in as a drop 911 call and a couple Sector 3 guys responded. Shortly after a flood of calls came in & the whole district responded. When I drive down Nimitz Highway nowadays, going westbound, I still take a peek over there and it reminds me of the worst workplace violence act in Hawaii's history. It was unheard of during those times. Gold Bless.

A really horrible and tragic event. I can't agree with Gary Dias that Honolulu is becoming a "world city". Just another "American" city maybe, but Hawaii is still very distinct from the mainland and it always will be. Where else does it take 66 years to build a rail transit system?

Bosses, supervisors must recognize work place harassment and be proactive. How can Xerox bosses not recognize this wasnt going on??? No one nipped it in the bud.
  • I still remember it like it was yesterday. It hit close to home b/c when they released one of the names Balatico, I was trying to remember where do I know that name from? Then it dawned on FHS Gov Baseball team from the 80's. I know this b/c I grad from there and my roommate at the time was an umpire. He had told me about this one player Jason, who was so nice and friendly. What made it even harder for me was, several of the Xerox victims, came to our job to service the comps/printers. These men will never be forgotten as long as those who are family members live and breathe.
  • I remember this so clearly. I was also a Copier Technician at a different company. I remember how our Management panicked at this incident. Our Management team were former Xerox Management employees. They knew the people that Bryan Uyesugi killed. I also remember our customers who also had Xerox copiers. This shocked a lot of us at that time.

I was across the street at the time. Heard the gunfire.

I was a student at HCC when this was going on. I remember my friend telling me what was happening just down the road.

How weird????? Watching utube and this pops up. This is the day I found out Nora had cancer. I was called from her boss to come to the first Hawaiian office. That time it was located across marukai and xerox was in back. For some reason I kept my two kids home cause I didn’t feel right. When I heard about the xerox shooting and all Nora’s boss said to come to office. All I thought was Nora was there but instead I was told Nora had Vance and not tell our parents.
  • This is not an unsolved murder. What people need to understand is, people need to be respectful to each other. Americans all talk without thinking. Words have a resounding effect

Just by looking at these guys that died. You know (speaking truthfully) some of them look like guys love to make fun of others. I think to stop all of this bullying is everybody to wear a body cam. You cannot go by he said/she said. Yeah, byron is the shooter. But there's always a tipping point for everyone. You can only push someone so far. I was told Byron was looking for only certain people. "I didn't know no females died" There's always somebody, somewhere is being tormented right now. It starts from school. So kids need to wear body cams. Especially the nerdy ones.
  • The issue here isn't about guns , but workplace culture, competitive environment and behaviors, his coworkers belittling him fueled his actions.
  • @coolnessnesss
I have more questions than answers.... so WHY did he shoot all those people.. AND the one thing that is extremely noticeable is WHY did only men die?
  • @mattluna09
I remember this shooting I was 9yrs old when this happened . even though this took place 2 years before 9/11/01

"He was a "Copy Cat" killer". I 'm sorry I couldn't help saying that. Youtube is going to ban me, "I'll give myself a 5-minute time out, starting now.
