NEVER tell your parents that you're working on 'nothing'. They will immediately get sus, and demand to see what you're working on. Trust, me. It has happened dozens of times to me.
  • fact: all writers have terrible posture and back pain but are too stubborn to stop their writing to correct it.

I have nowhere else to share this but I just finished the first chapter of my first draft! I know this isn’t too huge of a deal, but this is my first time writing a book and not a short story so I’m really proud!

Me writing a book and hoping for a large fandom with so much fanfiction just so I can post the first rough draft of the story and call it an AU and no one will know.
  • Being a writer is a legitment struggle. I have always adored writing and have finally made my way about 20 000 words deep into a novel I'm writing. This is the furthest I've ever come when it comes to actually writing something long (I have commitment issues okay). And just at the most inconvenient time possible an idea for a new book, the sudden urge to start editing my current draft and the urge to just delete the whole thing all together have come in most chaotic unison.
  • so i finished my first fanfiction in nov 2022, and then in january my brain just went "hi, remember that one work that you're super proud of? yeah, rewrite the whole thing and rework the characters so it can be published as an original work and also this is the only thing you're going to think about for the next six months ok? ok" and i've been here ever since

I can't stop laughing. It took him all day to come up with "The day was hot." lol I don't know why that cracked me up so much, but that was hilarious.
  • I'm not a real author I'm just a fanfic writer but these are still pretty relatable. rn im itching to write so bad but suffering from writer's block lmao
  • I’m so thankful the the girl who made a list of website for world building, character creation etc
  • Who else wants to be a famous fan fiction writer for a fandom.
  • when I make characters, I try to make outfits that fit their personality that are in my wardrobe, then I sometimes wear it while I write, or I wear parts of each outfit to inspire me to write, if I don't know which book to work on.

amazing comp!! I’m an aspirating author and the one about dreaming of there being a whole fandom about your work but being very upset about actually having to do the work to get there hits VERY close to home haha

I love being a writer. I enjoy coming up with ideas. Since I am currently writing my first book. I am 60 000 words in and I am proud of my vigor not to quit. I am looking for ways to add some ingredients to my world building to make it interesting. I will drew inspiration from Greek, Persian, Celtic, Roman, and Norse history to enrich my narrative

Me: happy that I’m not the only one who never writes straight characters

This is a story I’m working on: At certain times, fear stops us, and holds us back. Other times, it protects us, and keeps us from making stupid decisions. I thought my fear was holding me back, so I ignored it, just to fit in with my friends. Little did I know, that decision would nearly cost me my life. I survived the ordeal, but unfortunately, my friends didn’t. It all started one summer morning. My 3 friends and I would all be going to different colleges soon, so we had been hanging out with each other the past few months as often as we could. We wanted to make the most of the time we had left together. We didn’t when we’d be able to hang out together again once school started. There was only one week of vacation left, so I set up a group call with the three of them and asked how a couple days of camping in the woods sounded to them. They were all unsure of the idea, and truthfully, so was I. None of us had gone camping before. Still, I somehow convinced all of us, myself included, to give it a try. So, the plan was set. At 7:00 in the evening, we’d all gather into one car, bags packed, and drive around for a while until we could find a nice spot to set up camp. I had everything with me and was just about to head out the door, when the news my mom was watching in the living room caught my attention. “Charlie Peterson was found murdered at 9 in the morning yesterday in the South Woods forest, lying face down in the river, covered with blood. Police have yet to find the suspect but urge everyone to stay as far away from the forest as they can for their own safety.” South Woods Forest. That’s where we were planning to set up camp. “Sweetie,” my mom called. The urgency and worry in her voice was crystal clear. “I’m not going to stop you from sleeping over at your friend’s house this weekend, but get there as soon as you can, and lock the doors once you’re inside immediately. And stay inside. Keep me updated too, alright? I don’t want anything bad happening to you, do you hear me?” I nodded without a word and left. Yes, I lied to my mother. She always thought the forest was dangerous, and I knew she’d never allow me to go, so I told her I’d be staying over at my friend’s house for a couple nights. I felt bad about lying, but I wanted to have a bold and daring experience with my friends before we all split up. I drove over to my friend Victor's house, where the whole gang was waiting for me. “Alright, let’s get this party started!” Victor cheered. He was the party animal of our group, always up for anything and everything. “Last one in the car gets bad luck for a week!” Drake followed. He was always the Joker, could find a bright side to anything, and got along amazingly well with Victor. Brianna was next to go in. “If anyone happens to get hurt on this trip, let me know, I’ve got a first aid kit with me. It has bandaids, an epipen, gauze…” She was the mother of our group. Always cool, collected, and grounded. Finally, I got in, and we all set off. If you’re wondering who I was in the group, I couldn’t tell you. I’m still trying to figure that out myself. The more we drove into the forest, the more the pit of worry grew in my stomach. I decided to tell them what I saw on the news, but when I did, they all laughed. None of them believed me. “Come on Layne, we know you’re just trying to scare us,” Drake said. I pulled out my phone to show them the news article, but found I had no cell service. I sighed and sank in my seat. I had no choice but to go through with this, and pray nothing bad happened. The prayers in fact, did not help. We found a nice spot and started setting up camp. I tried to relax and enjoy myself, but my anxious thoughts were getting the better of me. I heard rustling noises left and right, swore I saw shadows lurking behind the trees, and heard my inner thoughts going “If you want to live, get out of this forest NOW.” But I didn’t listen. I told myself I was exaggerating. I was in fact, not exaggerating. We finished setting everything up, and the first thing we did was roast some hot dogs and marshmallows by the toasty fire. At this point I had started to ease up a little. We were fine. We were safe. We were together. Nothing could hurt us. The last thing we did to end our night was share some spooky stories by the fire, and boy was spooky right. It took me half an hour to fall asleep in my tent that night. But it didn’t matter. I was woken up a few hours later by Drake barging into my tent and shaking me by the shoulder. “Where the hell is Victor? Have you seen him?” There were many reasons I could not think straight at the moment. For one thing, Drake was never the kind of person to start freaking out like that, the only other time I remember him being this worried was when he borrowed his mom’s car without her knowing and accidentally dented it. Also, he woke me up at 5am. No one can act like a normal human being at 5am. Still, I gave him the only answer I had; that I hadn’t seen Victor since he went inside his tent to go to sleep. By this point, he had woken up Brianna too, and we both had to calm him down. Eventually he did, and we got a better idea on what was going on. Drake had apparently been woken up earlier by muffled noises coming from Victor’s tent. He called out to him and asked if he was okay, but there was no answer. Finally, the noises stopped, and the last thing Drake heard was footsteps walking around the campsite, passing by our tents, and then leaving after a minute. He then remembered what I had told him about the murder in the forest. That’s when he freaked. “Were you telling the truth about that murder?” he urgently asked me. Shook, I nodded my head yes. He then started cursing and muttering under his breath. This time, I had to be the one to shake him by the shoulders. “Get a grip on yourself! We’ll find him, I’m sure he’s fine. Maybe he went to go collect some firewood. Look, why don’t we wait here for 5 minutes, and if he’s not back by then, we’ll go looking for him, okay?” This seemed to calm him down momentarily, as he nodded quietly, and the three of us stood there in the forest, at 5 in the morning, waiting for our friend to return. 5 minutes passed however, but there was still no sign of him, so we took our flashlights, and headed out to look for him. We made sure to stick together closely, we didn’t need another member of our group getting split up from us Edit: I finished the story. Look at the replies to see it!
  • When I was in, seventh grade I think, I wrote up the first chapter of a story. It was about mafia and gangs because I was very into BSD at the time (ifykyk). I had been writing constantly, thinking about character relationships, ages, backstory, and not the plot at all. All that being said, I decided someone needed to read my masterpiece. That someone ended up being my english teacher. At recess I handed her nine freshly printed and stapled pages. Then she pointed out how I had used the word "giddy" to describe the reaction of one if the characters. When I chose that word I wish I was lying aboyt how much reasearch I did about it. And then I promotly decided the story was trash and what was I even doing with my life.
  • I remember one time i looked up fanart for my characters and then got confused why there wasn’t any and tried specifying by puts the book name after it only to realize that im the author and it’s not published yet… and that im still on the first draft. Mercury Nightshade (he/they)

Would anyone here read a fantasy book series where the a human gets sucked into a magical world except she’s not the Mc. The mc can control plants and lives in the magical world with her bff bird boi. The world is later invaded by humans and all of the fantasy creatures fight together. Just curious if it sounds interesting!
  • The best part abt being a writer is that essays in school are EASY to you, as you just research a topic instead of making your own plot line, and WAY less words!!
