So many of us ask, in different seasons of our lives, “What’s my calling? What is my purpose? What work would bring me meaning and joy?”

The answers to this question can help us make decisions about career changes, job searches, entrepreneurship, creative hobbies, and volunteer work.

In my life coaching work, I’ve had the opportunity to talk with thousands of individuals to help them discover their callings, and to see the patterns and themes.

In this video, you’ll learn seven simple ways to identify your calling - and we’ll also talk about resistance and self-doubt around our callings.

  • Tara, and this video - is spot on! I have experienced all 7 signs of my calling. The calling that is showing up in my heart right now is a ballet story. I have never taken a ballet class. I started going to ballets every Spring season for the past few years and after I got called to write a ballet I put it off for longer than I thought I did - 6 years. I started the story last September and I have spent my entire time during this pandemic working on the 3rd and 4th drafts of this ballet story. Everything she said is true for me. I'm in shock right now.

Resisting the calling- I can totally relate to that. Now I know it's part of the process.
  • this is true on every level for me. at first I was moving towards my dream, allowed fear to move in and ran the other way. been 16 long years, but could no longer hold it back anymore. am now making that calling a reality. thank you!

Favoritism seems like the bridge between success and failure, not a calling, everyone doesn't get a fair chance
  • This is brilliant. Thank you! I've been watching a lot of these "find your calling" videos and reading books and articles of the same subject. I have been trying to name what it is I should do with my life, as I have felt pretty lost and afraid of moving forward these days. This just struck a cord with me. You helped me name something I knew was in my heart but I had struggled to acknowledge as a "calling" because I felt a lot of resistance to it. I didn't feel like I was naturally good enough at it to take it on, and well, it ticked all 7 of those boxes perfectly. Many other videos demand you follow your bliss and do what you're already amazing at because that's you gift and it's going to be awesome and easy. That advice has value, but doesn't tell the other side of the story they way you do here. So thank you thank you! Keep up the good work!!

I wish there was a love button! Thank you so much for this video. I have definitely been resisting what I believe may be my calling.

    1. See a vision of something different related to a need in the world. Persistent pain or frustration. 2. Feel like you're supposed to be doing it. 3. 4. 5. Resistance to calling 6. Resources will come as you work on it. 7. You're not who you need to be to fulfill the mission. 6.

I like this! I've watched a lot of "how to find your calling" type videos but this one was different from all of them.
  • So true about number 5-7! Those totally resonate with me right now :-) thank you!

I read these words of Tara a few years ago to start me on my quest for a calling.I still believe all the points she makes are very true and very helpful. I would add, as hard as it is try and let things come to you, without trying to force an outcome.I really struggle with this one.

  • I believe that in order to find our calling in life, we must gain access to a deeper part within us, our Spirit, also called Knowledge. Our calling will begin to emerge as we reclaims Knowledge and as we prepare. We must prepare for our calling in life, or else will not be able to respond. I would like to share a passage from Steps to Knowledge, the spiritual practice that I'm following: "You have a calling in this world. It is not what you think it is. It will emerge from your Knowledge once Knowledge is allowed to emerge within your mind. You have a calling in this world because you have come here to do some very specific things. Your purpose in this world is to reclaim your Knowledge and to allow your Knowledge to express itself. That is a very simple statement of your purpose, but it is a statement that contains a great deal of depth and a great deal that must be fulfilled in time. You have a calling in this world because you were sent here to do something. It is for this reason that your mind is the way it is and that you have a specific nature that is distinct from others. As your calling emerges, you will realize why you think and act the way you do, and all of this will be brought into true balance and harmony. This will erase all cause you have for self-condemnation, for your nature represents a usefulness that you have not yet realized. In other words, you are made specifically for something that you have not yet comprehended. Prior to this you will resist your nature, thinking it is a limitation upon you. In time, you will realize that it is an invaluable resource for accomplishment, for you have a calling in the world."  (Step 231, Steps to Knowledge by Marshall Vian Summers)

beautiful video.  There's two ways I feel you can feel your calling.  1. Through Illusion by your Ego.  2. Through Presence, positive, joyful, and happy state.  I have a tough time trying to tune into that feeling because in the past my ego gave me so many ideas that I don't feel the true calling.
  • @timhalloran1188
Good point about resisting our calling. So true - we often put many barriers in the way of what we would truly love to do. Thanks for sharing.
