Me freaking out the whole time because I know this area like the back of my hand
  • I live somewhat near Hendersonville. Our weather in this area is unpredictable and if we get a lot of rain, damage can come on quickly and unexpectedly. Still, I wouldn’t live anywhere else. Our mountains are so beautiful and the people will give you the shirt off of their backs! Nice to have you visiting our area. 😊
  • Reed! That's my hometown! I was reading Transylvania Co. (my home county) got 10 inches of rain in one day. We're saturated. While the rain was pouring down, and the flash flood warnings were coming in, I thought to myself, too bad Reed Timmer isn't here. Little did I know, you were here! 😆I did some research too. I always knew parts of WNC were considered a temperature rainforest, I just never knew just how much rain we get annually. It was a shocking nearly 6-7 feet of rain a year.

Where I live in the northern Appalachians of NC, we didn’t get too much rain. Some areas in the county did though. We never know this time of year. We go through this almost every August or September so it’s nothing really new for us. Some years are worse. Great footage Reed.

Nice drone work, Reed! You showed us some amazing scenery. Beautiful!

The science you are getting from these flash flood intercepts is outstanding, never stop chasing!
  • That jeep in the water was next to the Publixi Hendersonville. It is a low lying area that will flood whenever there is a 5 Inch rain. And every few years someone does exactly what that driver did at that see exact same spot and ends up going for a swim.

Superb photography, Reed, especially from the drone. A great video, thanks.

wow. I have been to these falls. I am in awe. My pictures are of the real view - I would love to see it like this, but too chicken to hike it knowing what could happen
  • We were just there in May! My son was standing on that flat spot at the base of High falls. He just said "hey! there's that log!" 😆

I went to triple falls in DuPont years ago in a flash flood and witnessed a deer go over the falls, it survived
  • As badly as we need moisture here in Western Colorado, I am sorry about the places that are getting too much moisture.
  • Love the "Before and After" shots, thanks for that. The sound track of that waterfalls would be great just by itself. Eight hours long = restful slumber. Just a thought. Stay safe out there.

Reed, I live about five minutes from Dupont on the Transylvania side. We have the craziest micro climates in our temperate rainforest w/ an average rainfall of 90"/ year while Asheville, about 30 minutes away sees less than half of that. 6-8" per event isn't uncommon by any means, last year TS Fred clobbered my friends that were ten minutes away w/ 15+ inches while we only measured 7" at my house. Life in "The land of waterfalls"😀

I was standing across the Publix parking lot while you filmed the idiot who went around the barricade into the creek. I'm so blessed to call Hendersonville home, it really is a unique place to live!!!
