A recent article I saw on the Internet, I believe in HPP mag, did Pontiac V8 performance tests with all different kinds of mufflers and exhausts. If I remember right, with nearly open exhaust systems, the cars were picking up .2 to .3 in the quarter, that's really a lot for exhaust only!

Well it sounded great when it was idling it sounded like a race trackor

very nice!!! i got a 1980 firebird and i just picked up a tired old 73 455 that i'm doing over and cannot WAIT to get that thing running...it is going to be a beast....running 6x-4 heads to bring that crappy compression ratio up and gonna get it machined and cam'd. it is going to be a blast!

i agree, open headers vs the stainless custom, i'd go with open headers. of course you cant go wrong with headers/magnaflow combo =] its what im gonna run for my 79 304

I usually run a fairly mild muffler like a Flomaster 50 series with cut outs just so i have options

@77CanAm I forgot about your post. I pulled the valley off last night and have like 5 lobes flat... I really haven't driven it much maybe 800 miles.. I guess i'll have to be nicer until it is 100 percent broke in. I'm going with a 51.225.4 Comp Cam with 5.10 lift. 240in 246exh.

yeah, great vid! that car screams!! yeah, i have heard that same thing with hydraulic or solid lifter cams that you can wipe a lobe w/o the proper oil and break in. roller cams i believe are ok. my guess is you have a hydraulic cam..but that thing runs like a scalded dog!! good show!!

It sounds good either way, the X pipe sounds like it dragged it down a bit....bit still good.
