Why did the Egyptian pharaohs bury themselves in the Valley of the Kings? What's it like to be inside the tomb of King Tutankhamun, and why is he so important?
Today we explore the Valley of the Kings in Egypt, as well as the interior of some of the tombs where the pharaohs were buried 3300 years ago.

Subtitles available in several languages.

The level of decoration in these tombs is incredible, especially given they must have been painted just by candlelight
  • This is fantastic I will share it with everyone I think will find it interesting. You certainly deserve a much larger audience. THANK YOU

“Bravo”, Manuel. We returned from a dahabiya cruise up The Nile this Monday. We used your YouTube videos as research on how the various structures looked prior to departure. This latest video is so clear, succinct and carefully crafted. It also helps to have your Architectural insights. I will send a link to the other 8 passengers from our boat because, had they seen this before we sailed, they would have understood and appreciated the experience so much more. As you know, local guides are NOT allowed inside the Tombs and so much of their “spiel” is parrot fashion but your video flows so well and links Upper and Lower EGYPT and the 3 Kingdoms and various Dynasties. It was our 6th visit to EGYPT. Every time it gets better. This time, we found that tombs for Seti 1 and Nefertari were open to the public. They were expensive to visit and Nefertari was ostensibly limited to 10 mins BUT, Nefatari in particular was absolutely STUNNING! If you have not visited Manuel, pls do next time. We have some fantastic pics but you have done such a fantastic job here on the other tombs (2 of which we actually visited on Sunday), we will keep this one as our reference to show any of our family or friends who might ask about The Egyptians as it explains things so well. One thing that most people don’t realise is that the Pyramids are, what? 500kms away from Valley of The Kings, so a 2 centre visit is required. We also flew down from Aswan to Abel Simbel so I suspect you my create a video on that one day - merging the original carving out of the temple, the earthquake and the extraordinary engineering exercise of dissecting the two temples and moving the 200 ft higher up! Thank you again. We loved your representations of Pyramids, Karnak as they may have looked in all their splendour. We have also visited Rome and Petra so now we have “discovered” you, we take time out to view these vids as well. In meantime, you have another Subscriber. Grazie mille. 😉👍🥂🇬🇧 Kevin & Suzanne.

Mr Bravo, you're a master story teller. Much appreciated.
  • Excellent short overview of the Valley of the Kings in Egypt, an ever-fascinating subject.
  • The explanation of the religious development (Ra and Amun Ra) and the influence it had on pharaonic burial (the pyramid and the hypogeum) was an interesting point I never heard before. Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful video - brought back memories of my visit there about 40 years ago - teaches one how small we are in the vista of history...
