  • As an overweight guy who just began to go to the gym. Those heavyweight lifter with a muscle as big as my head is the kindest people I ever meet. They teach me to use the equipment, they encouraged me.

Imagine calling your gym a gym for everyone but then judging people based off appearance and kicking them out if they look a certain way

As a newer member to my local gym, seeing fit people working out hard is NOT intimidating. It is INSPIRING.

I’ve been to multiple gyms when I was slightly underweight and plenty now that I am slightly overweight. I have not once ever had someone “intimidate” me, make fun of me, or tell me I’m causing issues. Nobody at the gym gives a fuck what you’re doing as long as you are respectful and keep to yourself.

Bodybuilders are the most supporting people in the gym because they know how tough it’s to start and concept of “non intimidating “ gym makes me laugh 😂
  • The funny thing is that I realized that the image of intimidation is all in your head. I'm a REALLY unhealthy guy and only started working out recently. It's been extremely tough but the end goal is worth it. I realized that the body builders and heavyweight lifters are some of the nicest and most encouraging guys you can meet in the gym. They legitimately help anyone they see struggling and will go out of their way to give you a hand if you need it. This is across the board and I have NEVER met one with an opposite attitude.

I think it just depends like most of the workers said. I worked out at a planet fitness for almost a year and saw plenty of people breaking the rules and no one said anything as long as you’re not obnoxious or actually interfering with someone else’s workout. People did super sets, wore tank tops, lifted heavy, had muscle, etc. and weren’t kicked out.

Started going to the gym recently.. seeing other people in a good physique inspires me more. It's like showing you how in good shape you can become if you keep the hard work and push yourself to the limit.
  • I worked at the Planet Fitness version of a nightclub as a bouncer. They fired me for being too intimidating because I would cross my arms which is the comfiest way for me to stand. I was also a bit bigger than the average bouncer there. They wanted to create a friendly professional atmosphere. Mofos forgot they cater to drunk perverts all day while thinking they're hosting conferences or something.

  • I went to Planet Fitness once and I was on a treadmill and I took a sip of water. I then groaned pretty hard because of the fact that I was running and the lunk alarm went off and it scared the crap out of me. I lost my balance and fell off. I haven’t been back since.

I used to be a trainer in a real gym. I've never seen a more encouraging group than muscle heads. We had a young regular with a neurological disease that could barely walk and he was unironically treated like a champion. Because he was. He had the eye of the tiger, and that's all anyone saw.
  • @Valthe50Cal
This is unironically motivating me to get strong enough just to be kicked out of planet fitness

I've been lifting weights for 20 years. One day I had gone to planet fitness and worked out on the leg sled. I put the break on and as I was getting out it slid down and almost hit me, luckily I didn't have a bunch of weight on it at the time. The lunk alarm went off and one of the staff came over and started yelling at me saying that if I didn't know how to use the machines I shouldn't be on them. I told him it broke and I could have been seriously hurt. He checked and indeed it was broken. So basically if you make any loud noise to include machines breaking they punish and embarrass the hell out of you in front of everyone.

I'm a beginner at the gym, and having intermediate, or advanced lifters is a good thing because they help me with my form whenever I'm lifting.

  • I tried planet fitness a few years ago when I lived 5 minutes walking distance from one, and it was seriously such a let down as someone who was just starting out trying to be healthy and look good. The gym members and staff kinda sucked, and that whole cancelation of your membership process was extremely frustrating to the point of me actually consulting my attorney about it because they weren’t even open for me to cancel because of covid. Went to a new gym soon afterwards and shared my experience with their manager and they took me in like a sheltered dog.
  • A gym tried to charge me for canceelung my subscription. I just told my bank to not pay them anymore. That was the end of that.
  • @xzzile
The other thing that I’ve had to experience throughout my time with planet fitness was you have to go above and beyond and send letters in order to cancel your membership and then if you cancel your membership due to the state or town or a city that doesn’t have a planet fitness for whatever reason they will magically Put a planet fitness where you live. It’s happened to me three times in every place that I’ve lived in.
