Spider-Man No Way Home ends with Peter Parker urging Doctor Strange to complete his memory wipe spell so that no one in the MCU remembers who Peter Parker is. But how does this memory wipe spell work, the Runes of Kauf-Kaul, function, exactly? Was Spider-Man erased from the MCU history of Avengers Endgame, Avengers Infinity War, and Captain America Civil War? Erik Voss explains the FOUR RULES of Doctor Strange's memory spell, and what exactly is remembered by MJ, Ned Leeds, Happy Hogan, Doctor Strange, Flash Thompson, and all the other people Peter interacted with throughout his life.

This movie was a rollercoaster for the younger generation, and a rollercoaster of emotions for those who grew up on Toby and Andrew

I think what's important to remember is that what happened in the past hasn't changed, it's only the memories of Peter in others' heads and the records of Peter

The Spidey sense scene was phenomenal. Honestly Tom Holland’s emotional delivery is outstanding. The fact that he stood out amongst all these great actors is incredible. For me Tom’s the MVP of this movie.
  • It was so heartbreaking how he lost everyone he loved in this movie, losing Aunt May, Ned, MJ and even Happy and Peter embracing his tragic destiny of being a superhero forever at the end of the movie!
  • @tommuinnit
The fact that Ned no longer remembers Peter would make it allloooot easier for him to become a villain…
  • @TheChrisDV
You’re overlooking the most obvious explanation for Peter’s education: with May dead and everyone else who could take him in forgetting that he exists, Peter has had to drop out of school to get a job so he can pay for things like food or an apartment.

Wouldn't that mean that even though the emotional bond that most characters have shared with Spiderman remain? if so, Peter would reveal himself as Spiderman and that would allow those who connected with Spiderman to carry over that connection to Peter. Ned and MJ were saved plenty by him, so they would have that bond regardless and just realise they now have a face to the name. He could go to Happy and the avengers and simply reveal his identity and they would remember everything he did for them while being the masked kid from queens

You can’t say that they just don’t remember Peter being there with him and then say, “he might’ve never sat next to Betty” It doesn’t rewrite what happens. It doesn’t alter what happened in the past, Ned would just have no recollection as to why he sat next to Betty
  • @SACHINACHARYA
"People have these experiences. They start forgetting the person they knew, but they are still affected by the events that happened". This line hits HARD.
  • I don’t think the GED thing necessarily implies that Peter’s entire academic history was erased. He was still a few months off from graduating and staying away from Midtown and instead electing to take the GED could have been part of his effort to create distance between himself and his friends

this is just heartbreaking.... Peter not only lost his aunt but he lost his girlfriend and best friend.... and the most heartbreaking thing.... Tony... the person he looked up to... no one who was close to him will know anything about the relationship they had and they'll just see him as a stranger.
  • @bigbadwoodo
I think Nick Fury could be a huge part of getting him basic documents back, remember everybody on the planet got memory erased, and Nick was on the moon at the time, thus it wouldn't be a huge leap in logic to say he helps him out.
  • @pieceofgosa
That all seems fair but you can tell from that interview that the writers didn't ever go to this level of thought. Frankly the rules will be whatever the writer of the next MCU Spidey movie wants them to be.
  • I think the trinkets are going to play a major role in Peter reintroducing himself to those once close to him. It’s important to remember that while everyone else has forgotten Peter Parker, Peter still retains memories of everything. Therefore a telepath/ mind reader would believe his story, and might help others remember too. Maybe Professor X 🤔
  • @akashseth1474
It's funny how in the Civil war the first appearance of Peter, he mentions that he would have liked to play football, but since he couldn't then he shouldn't now. The endgame battle kind of offers that opportunity, where "spiderman is passing the gauntlet from person to person".
  • So I'm calling it, a hug between Peter Parker and happy will give happy his memories back.. the handshake between him and Ned will give back Ned's memories, and a kiss with MJ on school roof will give hers.. memories aren't always lost ,just forgotten. And they just need a push to come back
  • @luizrafael2871
Doctor Strange can't manipulate time because he doesn't have the time stone. Also Doctor Strange, can manipulate minds and reality without the mind and reality stone
  • @RiceChrispy0527
This could end up explaining a pivot towards him being a photo journalist for the Daily Bugle.
  • The KEY point and words were spoken by Wong when he said..."Just leave me out of this." So Wong will ALWAYS remember Peter Parker and SpiderMans history. Wong can explain to Dr.Strange and domino effect after that. BOOM!!!
  • @thecouncil8278
I imagine it how like In series 5 of doctor who Rory was forgotten but the little things were left behind eg the ring for Amy I feel the doctors speech about memory in that series applies quite well for this situation
