Sorry but the best way to do a Zelda movie is to not adapt a game onto a movie but make a movie that takes the themes of the games and what makes a Zelda story into a movie.

I think the style of How to Train your Dragon would fit the Zelda style amazingly. It already has these wonky weird looking side characters with amazing looking main characters, a style that allows not only for a kids movie but also for darker tones and just imagine epic Zelda action in that style.

Imagine an entire Nintendo verse ending with a super smash. I’d be there for that religiously

Of course he talks. Remember “well excuuuuse me, princess”?

I don't think they're being clear with the term live action. I think they will use motion capture and Avatar style CGI. Hyperrealistic but still obviously CGI

No ammount of live action cgi will be able to replicate what an animated Zelda movie could have been. It could have been a revolution for animation like Snow White and Fantasia were back on their day.

Regarding visuals, I believe Shigeru Miyamoto tapped director Wes Ball because of an old comment he made: that the next great Avatar-like live-action movie is Legend of Zelda. My expectation would fall along the lines of Avatar and or Battle Angel Alita uncanny valley levels of CGI quality then.

OoT would be an easy slam dunk, but I think WindWaker in its animation style would get all the little kids. My young nieces didn’t care one bit about BotW, but when they saw me play WW they were glued to Link’s expressions and the world at sea. And of course the Koroks. Kids love koroks haha

Did they say Link won't talk? Because frankly, animated or live action, i don't see him remaining silent. I know people fear the old cartoon meme resurfacing (honestly i expect that as a meme worthy clip they would want to do) and may not accept any voice, but it's pretty hard to have the main character be silent. It means tons of emoting or a sidekick tag along that will have to carry both characters' burdens. Besides, this build up of expectation that he never speaks is largely game driven: Link does speak in the games' canon, and in things like comics and manga does speak for himself, as much as any character would. I think it would be difficult to justify his silence without making him physically mute, and that would be altering the character. Honestly, if they're going to have him be his own character and not a player avatar, the games should probably bite the bullet and give him a voice for better narrative options. As far as a story goes, the windwaker actually came to mind. He's got a simple island life but you could expand it to him dreaming of adventure, his sister being kidnapped is a good call to action, he's the only canonical Link that wasn't the fated bloodline hero so it's an origin story, you could fill 2 hours with pirate antics before the climax where they storm the fortress. I'd probably write out the king of red lions and restructure the story so that the pirates are seeking the pearls and the power of the gods: basically, Tetra inherits the knowledge of the kingdom, demon lord, princess, and recognises Link as the hero when he draws the sword. I'd probably cut out the part with the sages and triforce gathering. Idk if i'd write the climax atop the forsaken fortress or follow through with Ganondorf beneath the sea, but it could wrap up the same, with him delivering his sister home safe and sailing out with Tetra to parts unkown.

Ngl I would really love a skyward sword movie, I think it would be pretty cool since link and Zelda have a pretty fun dynamic and has the creation of many of the series’ most iconic things like the master sword etc and it takes place at the beginning of a series, but tbh I think making its own original story that manages to capture the spirit of Zelda would be the best because I think the 3D games are just so big to adapt

Live action is a TERRIBLE medium for fantasy. I've always said so. As for making a Zelda movie, honestly, I think it's one of the hardest things to do, because in contrast to Mario, there's not so much of a coherent Zelda universe. Mario is filled with iconic races and characters, but Zelda's cast of creatures and characters changes from game to game. Breath of the Wild, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and Tears of the Kingdom have gone some way towards creating an iconic Zelda'verse with their strong and consistent depictions of gorons, zoras, koroks, rito and gerudo, so borrowing from those games are probably a decent start.
  • Kids watch live action movies, though? I mean, I've personally always imagined a Zelda film being made in live action, no matter how much it would also work in animation, but... The movie being in live action has nothing to do with fans of Zelda being older now, or kids not wanting to watch live action movies. Also, I think adapting a game is a bad idea for a Zelda movie. Rather than potentially do a bad job adapting a great story, just tell a new story without risking as much. Edit: Guys. Link is almost guaranteed to speak in the film. And he does canonically speak in the games, as well. We just... Don't hear it for some reason? Doesn't make sense, honestly. He should've spoken in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Also, I'd look at the director's most recent film, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes for an idea as to how Zelda is going to look. It's live action, but also HEAVILY CGI.
  • I think everyone who think its gonna include a ton of game lore will be very disappointed. Im betting it'll only moderately incorporate the main zelda themes
  • I really feel like it should have been animated. I have mixed feelings about it being live action but I’m open minded to the idea I suppose
  • @Craigy2818
A majority won't watch an anime movie. Whether people like it or not - anime IS niche and has a small minority of fans.
  • i want a 'excuuuuuse-me' link again! LOL but serious now, we had that gamecube tech demo, and when everyone was expecting a realistic and mature zelda, we had the wind waker. then again, a tech demo for wii u, and we had breath of the wild. what i want to say is, when it comes to zelda, nintendo knows how to subvert our expectations, and still, deliver great epic adventures. i believe this philosophy will be followed by movies, and the mario movie showed me a lot of this. i think the first zelda game, for NES, has enough elements to be explored in a kids movie, and still be expanded into a sequel or franchise. 😅

I think it'll all depend on what style they go for. If they go for BOTW/TOTK style that'll look terrible in LA. If it's more like OOT or TP then live action would fit just fine since so many fantasy films are in live action anyway and you might say that would make it too much like LOTR. Ok and making it animated is just gonna get it compared to Ghibli so either way it's gonna get compared to fantasy films that came before. That's the real task they'll have to get over is how will this stand out from other movies in the genre, the novelty of it being based on a popular franchise can only carry so much

There were a Zelda Trailer that came out on April Fools as a joke years ago that look sooo good, if they would do something in that style… Oh that would be awesome
