▫️Gillingham are the lowest ranked team in England, only scoring NINE goals so far in over TWENTY games! That's Insane!!! So today we aim to rebuild the team and carry them to a major trophy win here in England. This means we probably have to build all the way up from the depths, and put in a true shift to get up that alluding table! Along the way, creating club heroes, and reviving a forbidden and forgotten wonder kid from the depths of his Turkey trouble! We go all the way from the lower leagues and I'll spoil it, tale over TEN seasons! So strap in, and get ready for failure, success, and a whole BUNCH of signings!

I recently traced the history of Pep Guardiola’s football. Guardiola was evidently influenced by Johan Cruyff, whom he played under at Barcelona in the 1990s. Cruyff’s style was developed from Rinus Michaels, who instituted ‘total football’ at Ajax in the 60s & 70s with Cruyff, and later on at Barcelona. Rinus Michaels was a player also for Ajax from 1946-1958. One of the first coaches he worked under was a man named Jack Reynolds, who is cited as an influence on him, coached Ajax throughout the 1930s, but briefly returned after WW2 in 1946. Jack Reynolds was English, and only ever played for English clubs from 1903 to 1911. However, he coached 1 Swiss club before WW1, and only Netherlands clubs after WW1. He also very briefly coached the Netherlands national team in 1919. His player career started at Manchester City, so there’s a pleasing circularity to the story, because it could be said (perhaps a little tenuously) that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City success tracks back to a former Manchester City player from 120 odd years ago. Now comes the point of all this. The final club that Jack Reynolds played for - and it appears he was more successful there than anywhere else - was New Brompton, the former name of Gillingham FC. I rather fancy playing a save with Gillingham, employing the Guardiola style, which could take total football back to its possible place of ultimate genesis. Although, when I look into the deep history of the origins of total football, and it’s ‘predecessor’ Combination football, other candidates for a similar save could be Sheffield FC (evidently not linked to Sheffields Wednesday or United, though if you’re willing to stretch a point you could use them instead) Cambridge United or Queen’s Park in Scotland or Royal Engineers AFC (perhaps with Chatham Town FC (not far from Gillingham in Kent) as a stand-in), all of which could claim to be the original sources of modern football. Anyway, this is a brilliant video with good pace and great energy through your commentary. Thankyou for all your hard work in putting this together.
  • Thank you for bringing Pavkov. He's a legend of Crvena zvezda (Red Star) UCL champions in 1991. He scored 2 goals in a 2:0 victory over Liverpool in 2018.
