What is it that Ainz has been fighting for this whole time? Well, that's actually something that was answered during Ainz's conversation with Zanac. A rare moment where Ainz had actually dropped his act and spoken to someone freely for once.

  • We all thought Zanac was going to be a cliche hefty noble but he turned out to be the exact opposite
  • What happened to Zanac after the conversation is truly heartbreaking
  • @Archedgar
I was very impressed with how Zanac's character was handled, yeah. Truly one of the more pleasant surprises in Overlord.
  • There's also one phrase I loved that was omitted from the anime. When he asked Ainz "Don't you think you've proven your point already?" he said, "Honestly, I thought I had proven myself on the Katze plains, but as it turns out you still chose to attack me."
  • @Mediados
"He is a monster on the outside yes, bones and all. But on the inside he is a person like any other." Where others make great theories about Ainz' intentions, it took Zanac exactly one conversation to see right through him.
  • That one scene where Zanac and Ainz had a heart-to-heart made me a Zanac fan.
  • @Elric70
I daresay Zanac is one of the characters I completely changed my mind on. Initially I thought him just another petty noble type, willing to do anything to gain power. His change and ultimate fate made me really sad for the outcome. Then again I am sure a lot of people would have hoped that Brain and Gazef had also lived since they were also shown to be inspirational heroes.

One thing I loved is that everyone became a fan of Zanac only after his conversation with Ainz, opposed to his introduction. When we first saw him, he seemed to be the gluttunous prick who hated his sister and just wanted to be king, but when we look at the whole situation from his perspective, youre faced with a kingdom teetering, a sister who is evil incarnate with an inhuman wealth of wit and insight, and a buerocratic branch that was tearing itself apart from the inside. That's wild.
  • @FeedMeSalt
He was finally allowed too express the feelings of a mortal man...and the world took it away from him.
  • @takaw.d8486
i loved that Ending, it was sad mainly cause Ainz finally had someone to question his motives not as a villain, not as a enemy, but as a individual, Zanac actually connected with Ainz and Ainz knew that, which is even more sad cause you could feel his anger when the lord brought his head, he respected Zanac, this was shown as he ordered Albedo to bury his head along with his body, which is suprising cause Ainz wouldint naturally care

The Re-Estize Kingdom didn't deserve Zannac. He did everything he could for them, and they betrayed him at the end. His last moments were wonderfully written. How he compared himself to his siblings, and knew that he was lacking, but still did all he could to bestow unto those he loved, his people and family, happiness. Just like Ainz.
  • @ironflash3
What i really liked about the scenes with the noble's giving the king's head to Ainz is his voice. I don't think we've ever heard him sound so done with everything.
  • @ragegoat
This scene was just a beautiful one to read. It let the two understand each other and that they are fighting for the same thing. Although Ainz's "heartbreak" when Zanac was killed was very sad
  • @gantashiro978
The English dub actually nailed his dialogue more than the subs did. His dub VA for this episode had Zanac say vindictive and Ainz said to Albedo "Send them to Neuronist... We'll find their families later" keeping the piece about their families that the sub didn't keep
  • I will say this: Ainz offered water as a courtesy but he didn't expect Zanac to drink it, however if Ainz did know Zanac was going to drink it he probably would of offered something better. As a form last meal before they fought.
  • @ates423
A king who was too soft hearted to make the necessary choices to strengthen his kingdom, a self interested plotting princess, an ignorant and short sighted prince, and the one prince who would do whatever it takes for his kingdom, but lacked the talent and skill to do so. Beautiful story telling
  • @deltalord6969
"a hero would sacrifice you to save the world, but a villain would sacrifice the world to save you." is really applicable with overlords story telling and not just for ainz Day 69 of asking for a grand assassin hassan servant review
  • Ains was going to give them peace by making them suffer as less as possible. But those damn rebels gotta have to kill the prince, the only man Ains respected other than the Warrior Captain Gazef and bring his head directly to Ains while expecting to be spared along with their families. That moment.... Ains snapped. He gave them what they wanted (albeit in a way they didn't expect) . He just didn't care anymore about what happens to them and the whole kingdom after that. And the rest is history.
