  • You didn’t show how you did this. That would have been very helpful. We know what to do. We need to see!

That change in tone from before and after is very relatable
  • This is why I spend an extra 20 minutes at the lumber store and lay every piece of lumber on the floor to check out how bad the crowns are. as a rule of thumb 8th inch or less is acceptable, anything over that I toss that piece to the side and keep cherry picking. Obviously nothing will ever come out perfect, but if you cant atleast get the job as close to perfect as possible than what is even the point in renovating? 😆. Im in the process of installing all new hardwood floors right now and one room had an inch sag in the middle so I sistered the joists till I got it level. "They also had the joists 24" on center so I ran new joists in between to make it 12" on center because 24 to me is pretty unacceptable . My question is moister barrier, im installing solid hardwood floors wide plank "very expensive " But my base gets puddles in the spring time, the sump pump takes care of it but the basement gets pretty damp in the process. The engineered hardwood that I ripped up had a moister barrier underneath it, should I leave the moister barrier there when I install the new solid hardwood and also run a dehumidifier in the basement so the joists stay dry since it will have moister barriers on top of the subfloor? Or should I just take out the moister barrier and run the dehumidifier alone? Im worried these expensive wide plank flooring will cup if the dehumidifier isnt enough.. Ive also debated whether I should take the moister barrier off from the subfloor and staple it underneath the joists. What do you think?

My floor was replaced in Dec 2014 and now 3.5 years later, I am seeing a hump. Does it sometimes take that long to appear?
  • @jondavis2736
What if the crowning is over the main support beam of the house? I have a hump in my floor right over top of the main support beam where the floor joists sister together. Any advice on how to fix that?
  • This was very helpful as I also have 2 crowned joists I discovered when I got ready to lay a hardwood floor in my den. Question on alternate repair method. At 1 minute you show the gap between your level and the crowned joists. What if the level was replaced with a sturdy piece of wood and lag bolts were used to pull the two joists down to level? Thanks.

The only people that might understand this are those already in the industry
  • @james21ap1
Use I joists instead they are stronger and straighter than 2x12 lumber
  • @ante4625
I realize you didn’t how to fix it, but I was happy to learn that there was such a thing.
  • @portagepete1
Just run the reciprocating saw along the top of the floor joist you will remove wood with every pass. Then when level use liquid nail.
