If you enjoy this video please give a subscribe it means a lot and helps out a ton! If you want me to do more videos like this leave a comment :) You guys have been so awesome for taking time to watch me talk about my experience with OG Minecraft and I love getting to hear from all of you! I want to come back to this in the future and create a more in-depth talk about Minecraft, if you'd like to watch that let me know :)

This is my first attempt at making a video essay so I thought doing something that meant a lot to me would be a good start. I wanted to talk about the old version of minecraft and how it has this special magic or nostalgia about it that in my opinion the new version can ever get close to. Something that most people that I talk to nowadays mention is how Minecraft feels boring or off so I dug deep to see why that is and here's the best way I can describe the feeling. I do hope that Minecraft is able to get back to that old feeling but with these new updates and nothing adding to the enjoyment of the game I think we have moved past the game’s prime.

I want to give credit to Paulsoaresjr, Cubey, and TeddyLoftness because I used their videos to help enhance the video. I wish I could give credit to all the pictures that I used but sadly couldn't find the original person of the pictures. I would also like to give my girlfriend Meredith a shoutout for her tower in the video :)

  • I agree, i like to imagine that this video will blow out just like many 10yr old videos out there, and people will watch this from versions beyond 1.20 or even sequels, and would feel... Nostalgic.

The old minecraft brings back the times that I always wanted to feel

minecraft, no matter how many new structures and no matter how many updates they add, its always comforting to know that you can always go back to the older versions, at least on java

Poetic. Thanks for this, it has awakened a lot of memories of my inner 11 y/o starting a 1.5.2 survival world. Loved it.

I remember doing weeks of chores for my parents to buy the game when it came out too, and watching that trailer over and over because I couldn't wait lol. Nothing will ever beat that simple joy and peace of experiencing and creating in my own little world, where the only limits were my imagination. Thank you so much for sharing this with us :)

In my first world which is now unfortunately lost to time, in a birch forest I had built this sprawling "tree house" that went from tree to tree. Man I miss those days.
  • @veye203
i remember my "first world" was me trying to figure out why using the arrow keys to move didnt work. it took me 3 worlds to figure out how to move

You reminded me when my friend started a server, main feature of which would be to start from old god-forgotten version, and slowly (once in a month) update 1 version ahead. We got lucky, and had the server blown up (60-80 players online), and as far as i can tell, this nostalgic felling was present there until 1.8. In this specific version they removed bedrock particles. They changed some rendering stuff, and made game feel "modern", they removed old illegal items (such as fire with animated texture, lava block, water block, portal block, yeah literally), and dupes (yep, we are anarchy players, and these are also part of our nostalgia). Old hacked clients such as nodus (i bet you remember this one) could even break liquids by hands. So yeah, old hacked clients also were part of my childhood, and i miss these times just like anybody else.
  • It's interesting i get that feeling of magic and nostalgia playing beta 1.7.3 even tho my first minecraft was way after the release. Old minecraft really feels special. Btw you should make a world tour video!

I started playing minecraft in the summer of 2015, and I still remember how I made a lot of worlds on my laptop (most of them were in the 1.7.10 version) and the time I had while playing on the old Polish servers. A few years later, I had to play on mobile instead and in 2020 I lost all of my worlds on my laptop. I eventually came back to playing on a laptop and I used to play on a server with my classmates, but then it died and I created a new world in 1.7.10 because of the nostalgia and I also have a world on the newest version (currently it's on 1.19 because I still need to upgrade my tools to netherite). I have a lot of stuff planned for both of these worlds

that's how i felt playing pc gamer demo when i was 7 or 8, I had absolutely no knowledge of Minecraft, didn't even know how to use items (i dug a hole in the mountain behind the spawn) or how to build, even after playing it for the next 10 or more years through various versions, most notably 1.5.2 (I got stuck flying in creative and had no idea how to stop flying), 1.7.2 (had a minecraft world with my cousins over lan) and 1.8 (when I started playing on servers where I got to know most of current friends), the pc gamer demo still feels the most nostalgic, the sole map brings back memories of wandering around it, going into the underground lava lake, into the water cave, to the dungeon that spawned on the beach or to the sandy section behind it, the worst thing is that it's impossible to re-live these memories, exploring Minecraft worlds now feels way less exciting because of the amount of experience and knowledge about all the mechanics and mobs, there's just nothing to explore anymore and I hate this feeling with all of me, even if I wanted to play Minecraft it would get boring after an hour of playing it edit: guess who's having a nostalgia attack after finally finding their old world and looking at old screenshots from 2016
  • @Hellohowyadoin
This is probably the most nostalgic video I’ve watched. When I started playing, I turned off music but recently I have turned it on and it gives a little bit of that same feeling

1.0 - 1.20 We've come a long way with Minecraft, whether it's Java, Bedrock, or 360. Minecraft will always be remember ❤

I started on the Xbox 360, i still have it too. Minecraft was the first game I ever played. I still habe all of my worlds from when I first started and I visit them every now and then.

your channel is so underrated! im wondering how are you still not popular yet. great video tho!
  • @cookingchannelUY
I think that what made old minecraft so special was that feeling of isolation, the first structures like villages or desert temples were rare enough to make the world feel huge and lonely. Now you have over 14 unique structures that spawn way too often.
