Inside Ryan Murphy’s Bel Air Home Built By Richard Neutra | Architectural Digest

Today, AD takes you inside Ryan Murphy’s beautiful Bel Air home. Designed in 1955 by Richard Neutra, the Brown House features what is believed to be the only double-wide living room designed by the legendary architect. Working with designer Trevor Cheney, the 'Feud' creator wanted the interiors to create a sense of conflict and act as a reimagining of classic midcentury design. Decorative pieces from the past 500 years of mid-centuries contrast a predominantly contemporary art collection. Murphy’s home might be breaking several traditional design rules, but it’s also full of whimsy and intrigue, opening up a world of creative possibilities. “I have discovered that the only thing that truly interests me is a space in which things are in conflict. It’s the same in storytelling. A real design conversation starts to unfold when things that aren’t supposed to go together, for whatever outdated reasons, begin to suggest unexpected affinities and surprising similarities.”

'Feud: Capote vs. The Swans' is streaming on FX now.

  • I feel like I’m at the educational movie they play before you get to walk through the museum.

Having A-list actresses narrate your house's history and video tour for AD is a FLEX

Too many close-up shots. You don't see the impact of the architecture.

The Tiffany lamp wasn't chic or ironic. It was out of place as was a great deal of objects. Furthermore, this house is undeniably mid-century, we can all agree... the very random objects didn't make the house eclectic, just random. There wasn't a flow, it wasn't ironic. It just looked like a wealthy person on a shopping spree who lacks a vision.

I’m getting “American Psycho” vibes. No?

This whole thing veers very close to an SNL parody. The narration was painful.

I have never commented on YouTube, but this was absurd for me. RM did not want to be relatable as all the other famous, highly notable individuals, & just take us through his house himself like a down to earth person? Instead he has it scripted, narrated by actresses he’s worked with, and shoots it in a way like every idea is the first time anyone has ever thought to do it. Go elsewhere sir. Part of why so many love the video format AD has been doing is it allows people to feel they have gotten to know the person a bit more. This did the opposite for me personally & I see some others agree. I’m see some still enjoyed it, but wouldn’t everyone have liked to get “to know” a bit more of Ryan through him, vs. all these famous actresses?

Why is AD doing a commercial for Ryan’s Murphy’s house? This video gives me the creeps.
  • @tharciomm
I wish i could see more of the house, like the usual videos of the channel
  • Is the narration supposed to be sarcastic or ironic? It’s so over the top, it can’t possibly be meant to be taken seriously. If it’s a parody, congrats it’s Documentary Now level hilarious. I mean, “Famously yodeled.” Really?

These types of videos should have financial stakeholders listed like they're sponsor logos on sports jerseys
  • @t0fast
This whole video and house reek of insecurities, over compensation and boredom. I have never disliked an AD video or property... until this one.

That "Gwyneth" painting is NOT on an aubergine coloured wall, THAT is very clearly burnt umber! 😂😂😂😂
