ICAA Influencers: Bobby McAlpine

Published 2021-08-05
Architect Bobby McAlpine reflects on the designers and buildings that continue to inspire him. From Edwin Lutyens to Frank Lloyd Wright, from mid-century modernism to even a box of Crayola crayons, Bobby muses about his approach to the discipline of architectural design, and how he thinks about the legacy of his firm McALPINE. As he puts it, "Every time I begin a new project, what concerns me is not only solving the riddle that's in front of me, that it is creating a solution that will ride the test of time and will remain attractive to future generations."

This is the third episode of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art's (ICAA) new video series, “ICAA Influencers.” This five-part series interviews today’s top architects on the topic of legacy and how they were inspired and influenced by past design. Each episode reveals a remarkable variety of design inspirations that shaped one of the leading minds of classical architecture: Patrick Ahearn of Patrick Ahearn Architect, Tom Kligerman of Ike Kligerman Barkley, Peter Pennoyer of Peter Pennoyer Architects, Bobby McAlpine of McALPINE, and Jim Strickland of Historical Concepts.
