The three surfers were reported missing through social media posts earlier this week, with Baja California authorities officially announcing their disappearance in a press release Thursday.
The surfers were a San Diego man, Jack Carter Rhoad, and Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson, according to a report in The San Diego Union-Tribune. The newspaper reported the three men didn't check into their Airbnb in Rosarito following a surfing trip south of Ensenada.
KTLA's Sandra Mitchell reports on May 3, 2024.

Can’t understand why people are visiting Mexico anyway.
-
I am Mexican, USA naturalized, I am embarrassed of Mexico i haven't go back in 25 years... What an embarrassment! RIP the young men..and to those that remotely think of visiting Mexico please reconsider, dont spend one red penny in Mexico. 😡
-
Cartels and the Mexican government are the same thing....
-
I was about to travel to Mexico after visiting San Diego on a cross country road trip back in 2020, but I change my mind and made a U-turn about 100 yards from the border because I couldn't stop thinking about so many strangers from the shops I visited in San Diego warning me Not to go there. I remember the cashier and several customers at a Petsmart literally pleaded to me not to go there. I'm glad that I eventually decided to listen to them.

The family have my sympathy, going to Mexico is not safe at this time. But whoever has done this should pay for that crime.
-
Don’t expect true help from Mexican authorities they are all in it.
-
I worked in an architecture firm with two Mexican nationals for several years in San Diego who commuted each day across the border and they warned me many times to never go down there - at least, not with a local and a very specific plan, which, of course, wouldn’t guarantee anything but at least gave you a fighting chance. Edit: not without a local. And, of course, RIP men, so very tragic and sad.

Mexico hasn't been a safe place to go for a very long time .. i will never go there !!!
-
Damn sad for those parents. 2 sons. Wow. May they all find comfort in the outpouring of 🙏 and 🌹

I'm from Perth, Western Australia, and this has been a big story here. It's a sad loss for Western Australia, and all West Australians will be thinking of the family and friends who have lost 3 beautiful people.
-
What a shame. MEXICO IS NOT A NICE PLACE TO VISIT.
-
working with Mexican authorities? good luck
-
My friend is from Mexico. He says you don't want to go anywhere in or near Mexico. Dangerous.
-
I traveled the world for twenty years working at sea. I will never go back to Mexico. There is way too much violence.
-
I thought anyone who lives in SoCal knows you DON’T go camping in Baja, not with their high drug crime rate. Those poor young men and their families.
-
Living in SoCal I've heard the warnings of how dangerous it is to visit Mexico and I'm sure they heard the warnings, as well. They probably thought it will be okay, we're just going to go surf. What a terrible mistake. Let this be a warning to others that plan to visit Mexico. You're not safe anywhere in the entire country.
-
I keep thinking about that poor momma who lost her 2 sons… it does no good to admonish the boys for going to Mexico now. Please don’t start with the would have, could have, should have. Have some sympathy for the families.
-
I’m so so sorry to the families. Poor mother losing two sons like that. This is absolutely horrible and disgusting
-
The Cartel! Which is allowed to operate by the Mexican government.
-
Nowadays people are hardly safe on the US soil let alone in Mexico playing in the cartels backyard. Sad what happened to them. RIP 🙏
