In light of the iCarly reboot news, understand that Jennette does not have fond memories of doing iCarly or Sam & Cat. Please respect her wishes if she doesn't participate in the reboot because the experience was traumatic for her and she’s still working through her trauma. Don’t overwhelm her by asking her to be in the reboot.

This is a short clip from Empty Inside: Ep. Antidepressants with Esther Povitsky.

I don’t own the rights to this! Video credit goes to Jennette’s podcast "Empty Inside". I recommend checking it out because it’s really good and a 3 minute clip can't do it justice.

  • I would rather Jennette be happy than to do an reboot. Her happiness and mental health should come first.

I hate dan schneider that most for continuing to write her off as a hungry eating aggressive person knowing she had a eating disorder, if she couldnt digest something and threw up he made get back on set and continue eating... then on sam and cat he decided to underpay her how disrespectful.

Don't get me wrong I FUCKING HATE that she won't be a part of this reboot. But she shouldn't do it it if she doesn't want to. I want Sam, I need Sam, but Jennette doesn't want or need that. I want what's best for the person.

It will be great if she join the the reboot. If she doesn’t back at reboot, that her choice and I’m really fine with it.

Can’t wait for the documentary called ”surviving Dan Schneider” 😬
  • @pocketvision24
Its irritating that every time i hear an interview with a child actor, the other person still sounds surprised that it wasn't fun and was actually traumatic. We should all know by now that putting children in show business is exposing them to abuse. Can the conversation finally start there?

Backstory/FAQs - On her podcast, Empty Inside, Jennette confirmed that acting was triggering to her eating disorder and contributed to her anxiety disorder/social anxiety. She was forced into acting by her mother at age 6 and ultimately guilted into supporting the family financially until her mother's death, as the main source of income. Jennette said she felt the pressure to "put food on the table" for her family to survive. Starting at age 11, her mother encouraged her to starve herself because this got her "more parts", which led to the onset of a severe eating disorder. She went on to battle intense eating disorders for 13 years. As confirmed by Jennette, acting was extremely anxiety provoking for her and contributed to low self-esteem and self-deprecating behaviors including symptoms of depression, a 3-year struggle with alcoholism, and worsening of her eating disorders. Going to industry events and being around other actresses who were former friends was also negative to her recovery journey, as she found that many of them had eating disorders that would then perpetuate her own eating disorder. She confirmed that stepping away from acting has helped her to find personal fulfillment in her life and work on bettering her mental health. In 2018, Jennette confirmed that she had retired from acting on her Laura Clery Podcast appearance. In this interview, she talks about how difficult it was for her to step away from acting because she was used to pleasing others all the time. She felt that she had to keep acting because that was what family, friends, fans, etc wanted for her. She did not feel fulfilled by acting and felt that it was weighing her down. Stepping away from acting and doing something that made her feel fulfilled was a big step for her. In 2020 on her guest appearance episode of the Mikhaila Peterson Podcast, she confirmed that a producer she worked with from ages 13-21 was very verbally abusive, which still causes her anxiety and PTSD to this day. She associates the horrible set environment she had to endure growing up as a negative influence on her mental health. In light of the iCarly reboot news, understand that Jennette does not have fond memories of doing iCarly or Sam & Cat. Please respect her wishes because the experience was traumatic for her and she’s still working through her trauma. Don’t overwhelm her by asking her to be in the reboot. Asking her about iCarly is likely to provoke some anxiety for her. Anyone who would rather her go back to the reboot and not respect her decision is basically asking her to destroy any progress she's made towards her own wellness.

It’s crazy bc it seems like the other cast members loved acting on the show. Too bad she had such a negative experience
  • @emmagrace3114
I feel horrible for Jennette. It is disgusting that the rest of the cast is not respecting her trauma and continuing to stress the idea that she might come back as a way of keeping fan interest. Poor Jennette is trying to move forward with her life and focus on her mental health and they're still doing this reboot. Being a fan of her, I know she's suffered from eating disorders for over a decade. She dealt with depression surrounding coming to terms that she was not happy with her acting career because she thought she had to do what would please everyone else instead of what she wanted. Hearing about iCarly gives her tons of anxiety and she deserves relief from it all. Once she's finally able to break free from acting, she's subject to being tormented by fans and media outlets to go back to a show that completely destroyed her mental health? No one ever looked out for that girl or tried to get her help. Not her family, not her cast mates, or friends. She deserves so much better than this.

I feel bad for Jenette McCurdy because of what she went through. This is all Dan Schneider’s fault. What he also did to Alexa Nikolas and Amanda Bynes was unacceptable.
  • @felixflax19
Sam Puckett helped normalize physical abuse in my own childhood and while I’m not glad Jeanette suffered, I’m glad she is speaking out and making sure people know Sam Puckett should not be anyone’s role model. I’m glad the new generation won’t be subject to Sam beating up Freddie as the laughtrack plays in the background
  • @Altaria2001
I think they will write her as staying in LA with cat
  • @NbaTae02
It sucks she won’t be in the reboot but her mental health is more important
  • @ohh_heavy
I hope Jeannette is going to be happy and that she isn't feeling bad if the recast her role
  • @mr.goodboi2780
that sucks. She was such a huge part of the show. I'm sad she didn't like it.
  • @jordanrich8869
I’m terribly sad she basically hated her icarly days. It makes me so sad. She’s such a talented actress. Even tho she went thru pure hell, I’m thankful for her giving us so many wonderful memories. The show would be a footnote without her but I wish her all the best and hopes she finds peace ❤️
  • @a.redwood
I feel so bad. I loved iCarly as a kid, and specifically Sam who was literally my gay awakening. It's so sad to hear about this. I hope one day she can be at peace with her past. I wish she was part of the reboot but she should do what's best for herself.
  • @bug8357
She followed the showrunner and producer of the ICarly reboot so theres still hope she will return. If she doesnt want to i obviously respect her decision but i will still hope.
  • @PlasmicMusic
They should give her the closure of writing the death of her own character on the reboot. It’ll be like killing the thing that haunts her. Cathartic.
  • @bioticheart
Thank you for uploading this and also writing that description the way that you did. I think it's important for people to see this because it's sad how many don't think about the person under the actor or their character.
